Biden DOJ Wants Reduced Sentence For Leftist Lawyers Who Used Molotov Cocktails To Target Police Van During Protest | Eastern North Carolina Now

The Biden Justice Department has retroactively sought to reduce the sentencing of two leftist attorneys who were convicted of possessing and making an explosive device after one hurled a firebomb into a police car and the other carried improvised explosives in his car which he tried to hand out to other protesters during protests in 2020.

Urooj Rahman was videotaped throwing a Molotov cocktail into an empty NYPD patrol car in Brooklyn in May 2020 and later arrested. She was charged after the incident alongside fellow lawyer Colinford Mattis.

"After setting the vehicle on fire in full of view of the cops, they drove away in Mattis's van and were quickly chased down and arrested. In their possession, officers found yet another Bud Light bottle turned into a homemade incendiary device and the makings of more in the back seat. Prosecutors later said Rahman had offered Molotov cocktails to other protesters, as well," National Review contributor Jonathan S. Tobin noted.

Prior to the incident, Rahman stated in interview regarding the death of George Floyd, "This s*** won't ever stop unless we f***ing take it all down. We're all in so much pain from how f***ed up this country is toward black lives. This has got to stop, and the only way they hear us is through violence, through the means that they use. 'You got to use the master's tools.' That's what my friend always says," as The Daily Wire reported.

"Mattis and Rahman pleaded guilty last year to one count of possessing and making an explosive device, a charge carrying up to ten years in prison," National Review pointed out.

But last Thursday, Mattis and Rahman withdrew their guilty pleas to a charge of unlawfully possessing Molotov cocktails, and instead pled guilty to conspiracy charges, which means at the most five years' imprisonment.

"The reduced charges represent a remarkable change from the tough approach initially taken by federal prosecutors, who had initially hit the attorneys, both 33, with serious charges that could have landed them in prison for decades," NBC New York admitted.

"Even for a Justice Department that has bent over backwards to be lenient towards left-wing protesters while throwing the book at right-wing protesters, a retreat from a previous plea agreement is a dramatic display of favoritism for left-wing political violence," National Review asserted, adding, "These are gravely serious crimes, more so than those committed by all but a tiny handful (at most) of the people charged in connection with January 6."
