    Mr. William Tayloe Cutler, Sr., age 84, a resident of Washington, NC died Saturday December 3, 2022, at his home.

    A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday December 6, 2022, at First Church of Christ in Washington officiated by Ray West. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Evans, Rodney Evans, Mark Evans, Lee Ferguson, Lee Moore, and David Walker.

    The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday December 5, 2022, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home of Mr. Cutler's son Billy located at 400 East 9th Street, Washington.

    Mr. Cutler was born in Beaufort County on June 22, 1938, son of the late Hilton Brown Cutler and the late Estelle Congleton Cutler. He was a 1956 graduate of Bath High School. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force. On July 4, 1963, he married the former Yvonne Evans who preceded him in death on December 13, 2017. Mr. Cutler worked in the Maintenance department of Dupont of Kinston as a mechanic where he retired in 1998 after 36 years of service. Affectionately known as "Papa," he devoted his life to leading and serving his family. He was a family man steadfast and true.

    Fishing with his sons and friends brought him much joy over the years. He especially delighted in good conversation at the dinner table. A man of few words, he was never at a loss for sound advice or quick-witted humor. Mr. Cutler loved watching sports, tending to his home and yard, and keeping his cars and trucks spotless. He was a member of First Church of Christ in Washington.

    Surviving are his sons: William "Billy" T. Cutler, Jr. (Melody) of Washington, Troy A. Cutler (Annette) of Washington, and Stephen L. Cutler (Ellen) of Wake Forest; sisters: Olivia "Lib" Smallwood of Tarboro and Brenda Joan Respess (Larry) of Rocky Mount; and eight grandchildren: Zach, Charis, Juliet, Brandon, Ashley, Trey, Jack, and Will Cutler.

    Mr. Cutler was predeceased, along with his parents and wife Yvonne, by his brothers: Harold Brown Cutler and Larry Gray Cutler.

    Flowers are welcome and appreciated and the family kindly asks for any memorial contributions be made to First Church of Christ, 520 East 10th Street, Washington, NC 27889.
