Linwood Allen Dunn Sr., age 72, a resident of Stokes, NC, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2013, at the home after a short illness.

Funeral services will be at Faith Free Will Baptist Church, 641 River Road, Washington on Wednesday, February 20, at 7:00 PM., officiated by the Rev. Cecil Boswell and the Rev. Danny Barrow.

Visitation will be Wednesday prior to the service from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the church. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to the March of Dimes or the Gideons International.

Linwood was born September 25, 1940, in Kinston, NC, to Oliver and Adell Dunn. He retired from the City of Washington as Superintendent of the Water and Sewer Distribution Department with thirty years of service.

He lived his life for his Savior and his family. Never thinking of himself and always putting others first.

Linwood loved explaining God's Word to others and had a gift of making it simple enough that everyone could understand. Over the past fifty years he served as a church deacon, taught adult Sunday school classes, Wednesday night Bible study, and even served as interim Pastor. He was willing to answer any question and if God had not given him the answer he would go to the Lord's Word until he found it.

Linwood loved sports but due to having polio at age one was not able to play so he coached. Washington Youth League and Junior Babe Ruth were blessed by having his kind loving way of working with boys and girls from the late '70s through the '90s. He was known for and able to continue his love for sports by annoucing Bath High School Football games and later Northside High School in the late '80s and early '90s.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years Anna Davenport Dunn; four sons, Tandy and wife Juanita of Washington, Lin of Sarasota, Florida, Carl and wife Kim of Stokes, and Lane and wife Beth of Raleigh; seven grandchildren, Patrick and Paul of Clinton, Ashley and Kasie of Washington, Courtney and husband John of Stokes, Devon of Stokes and fiancé Matthew of Tarboro, and Matthew of Raleigh; three great-grandchildren, Logan and Gage of Washington, and Carli of Stokes; and a family friend Maurice Menager of Sarasota, Florida.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Doctor Lara Surles.
