"I mean, I always ask God to lead me in the right direction and let me be who I am for His name," he added. "Obviously it will be on a huge stage in the Super Bowl that He's given me and I want to make sure I'm glorifying Him while I do it."

Mahomes also spoke about his relationship with God last month after the Chiefs beat the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship. He had sustained a high-ankle sprain going into the game and praised God for healing the injury in time to play.

"First off, I wanna thank God, man," Mahomes said after the game. "He healed my body this week, had to battle through that. He gave me the strength to be out here."

"But I was with this team, man," he added. "We played together. I said it from the beginning, when we were in the locker room, I said we gotta be together and this team stepped up."

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts also praised God following his teams win against the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship.

"Only God knows the things that each individual on this team has been able to overcome to come together as a team and do something special," Hurts shared at the time.
