Biden Calls For Republicans To Face ‘Pressure,’ Claims He Supports 2A In Renewed Gun Control Push

    President Joe Biden called for people to "put pressure" on Republicans to pass gun control legislation on Tuesday as he seeks to pass an "assault weapons ban."

    Biden called for more gun control during an event in North Carolina, after he watched the footage of the mass shooting at a Christian elementary school in Nashville where six people, including three children, were murdered by a female shooter who identified as a man. During his speech, Biden singled out Republicans who stand in the way of his gun control agenda.

    "Those children should all be with us still," Biden said before ripping into Republicans. "I want you to know who isn't doing it [supporting gun control], who isn't helping, to put pressure on them," he added.

    The president also referred to himself as a Second Amendment supporter, but claimed that the Constitutional protection has limitations.

    "I have two shotguns. My sons have shotguns ... everybody thinks somehow the Second Amendment is absolute! You're not allowed to go out and own an automatic weapon. You're not allowed to own a machine gun. You're not allowed to own a flamethrower. You're not allowed to own so many other things. Why in God's name do we allow these weapons in our streets and at our schools?"

    Ever since the Nashville Christian school shooting Monday morning, the White House has renewed its calls for tougher laws on firearms. Earlier this month, Biden issued an executive order in an attempt to crack down on the gun industry, "moving the U.S. as close to universal background checks as possible without additional legislation."

    The Nashville shooter, a former student at the school, carried two rifles and one handgun into the Covenant School where she shot and killed six people before police arrived on the scene and killed her within minutes. Police said the shooter legally purchased seven guns from five different stores. Her parents, who said they did not want her to own any guns, acknowledged that they knew she had previously sold a firearm but did not know she owned others, police said.

    Authorities also revealed on Tuesday that the shooter was undergoing care for an undisclosed "emotional disorder." A source close to the family told The Daily Beast that the shooter was also autistic but was "high-functioning."

    Police said they searched her parents' home and found a detailed map of the school along with a manifesto. On Monday, Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake called the shooting a "targeted attack" and said authorities have a theory on the shooter's motive, but they are not ready to share it yet.
