After Durham report, should corrupt FBI be reformed or replaced?

One of the biggest threats to democracy in America is law enforcement agencies, the FBI and DOJ, that have gone down the path of being political enforcers and engaging in partisan election interference. Even before the daming Durham report, polling showed that a majority of Americans agree with Roger Stone's assessment that the FBI is now "Biden's personal Gestapo". Others have used the KGB or the old East German Stasi as ecamples of what the FBI has become. Now the Durham report should be the last nail in the coffin of an agency that is out of control and permeated with political corruption. Their election interference has included both protecting their favored candidates and trying to damage those they did not like. This is a rogue agency, but the ultimate question is whether it is possible to reform it or whether it needs to be wound up and replaced with a new agency or perhaps its duties turned over to the states.

The rot at the FBI is very clear at the top, and it is also clear that it extends deep into the agency. Similarly, the rot is deep at the DOJ. Since the DOJ is created by the Constitution, it is clear that reform is the answer there, but the FBI is a statutory agency, and simply abolishing it and creating a new agency with different personnel and a structure to insulate it from politics is also a viable option..

The FBI has done so many things to trample on our Constitution in its partisan political intervention that it is not savable. That is sad considering the past honorable history of this organization, but it is now in a position it can simply not be trusted any more. We need a new national law enforcement agency with new leadership and new employees, and most importantly a structure that cannot be misused for political purposes like the FBI has been.
