Two Local Beaufort County Kids Compete in CHL Jr. Pirate Travel Team | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Two Beaufort County residents, Owen Chrisman and Tucker Davis, played on the 2012-2013 Jr. Pirate Hockey travel team that recently made it to the CHL finals in Wilmington, NC. The Jr. Pirate travel team competed in the CHL (Carolina Hockey League) this season and the team played a grueling 25 game season with 11 trips to cities as far north as Roanoke, VA and south to Charlotte, NC. The two defensemen helped get the Jr. Pirates into 3rd place in regular season play and 3rd place in the CHL Finals. In the past the team has entered independent tournaments as far away as Pittsburgh, PA.

    Owen Chrisman was named the team's "Best Defenseman of the Year" and had 2 goals, 1 assist, and 10 penalty minutes for the season. Tucker Davis had 2 assists and also had 10 penalty minutes this season. Both Owen and Tucker are in Ms. Folkers' and Ms. Lane's fifth grade class at John Small Elementary where they both have made the A-B Honor Role. Both boys started playing hockey at Bladez on Ice in Greenville in 2009 and have been on the travel team for the past three years. The Jr. Pirate Hockey Team is one of the teams fielded by the ECHA (East Carolina Hockey Association). ECHA fields multiple travel teams as well as a local House League, a hockey "Learn to Play" program, and puts on an annual "Try Hockey for Free" day.
