Mr. James Latham "Jim" Hodges, Sr. | Eastern North Carolina Now


    Mr. James Latham "Jim" Hodges, Sr., age 85, a resident of 8224 U.S. Hwy 17 North, Washington, Gum Swamp community, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington.

    Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Old Ford Church of Christ, 6040 U.S. Hwy 17 North, Washington, conducted by Eddie Bowen and Thomas Hamilton. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington.

    The following will serve as pallbearers: Churchill Hodges, Robert Leggett, John Leggett, Billy Swain, Chris Bailey and Jason Bailey.

    Mr. Hodges was born in Beaufort County on August 19, 1927. He was the son of the late Oscar and Caddie Willard Hodges. He was a retired farmer. Mr. Hodges was a member of the Old Ford Church of Christ for over 70 years and the Woodmen of the World, Old Ford Camp 671. In his spare time, Mr. Hodges enjoyed collecting antiques and old farm tractors.

    On December 31, 1959, Mr. Hodges married the former Myrtle Bailey, who preceded him in death, March 15, 2006.

    Mr. Hodges is survived by his daughter, Deborah "Missy" Lowery and her husband, Bobby of Goldsboro; his son, Jimmy Hodges and his wife, Laney of Washington and his grandchildren, Ryan Lowery, Kathryn Lowery and Amy Ruth Hodges.

    In addition to his wife and his parents, Mr. Hodges was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilbur Hodges and Oscar Hodges and five sisters, Elizabeth Hodges, Annie Laurie Swain, Mabry Leggett, Norma Leggett and Madeline Wagoner.

    The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Friday, April 5, 2013 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at the home.

    Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to the Old Ford Church of Christ, 6040 U.S. Hwy 17 North, Washington, N.C. 27889.
