    Mrs. Elizabeth M. Ammons Howell, of 1169 Ripp Hwy., Pinetown, NC died on April 10, 2013.

    Mrs. Howell was born In Clio, SC on October 26, 1929 the daughter of the late Daniel Thomas and Bessie King Ammons. She was the beloved wife, soul mate and business partner of Vernon F. Howell, Sr. She was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church, Gibson, NC and she attended Bath United Methodist Church, Bath, NC. She was a loving mother to seven children, their families and many others of whom she came in contact with during her life. She attended Clio Public School and upon graduation she was employed by BC Moore and Sons, Dillon, SC.

    During her employment she was chosen "Miss Dillon County". Some of the many qualities that characterized Mrs. Howell were her kindness and affection towards her many friends with whom she prayed for and treasured daily. One of her proudest honors was being chosen, The Washington Daily News "Mother of The Year" by many friends and extended family. One of her many joys was working in her yard and growing her beautiful flowers.

    Mrs. Howell is survived by her husband, Vernon F. Howell, Sr. of the home and six children, thirteen grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. She was also looking forward to the birth of her next great grandchild Wyatt, in June.

    Her children are Vernon Franklin Howell, Jr. and wife Nell of Washington, NC, Fred Thomas Howell and wife Debbie Jo of Pinetown, NC, Colon Whitfield Howell and wife Brenda Kay of Pinetown, NC, Wayne Ammons Howell and wife Candy of Pinetown, NC, Elizabeth Denise (Lisa) Howell Brown and husband Billy of Washington, NC, Forrest Glenn Howell and wife Fran of Pinetown, NC and she was preceded in death by a son Winston Gibson Howell.

    Her grandchildren are Franklin Todd Howell and wife Reagan of Greenville, NC, Winston Thomas Howell and wife Kristi of Winterville, NC, Frederick Christopher Howell and wife Michele of Pantego, NC, Holly Elizabeth Howell Honeycutt and husband Brad of Morehead City, NC, Pate Whitfield Howell and wife Ambre of Pinetown, NC, Pamela Kay Howell Boyd and husband Jeremy of Pinetown, NC, Ashley Candace Howell Swindell and husband Lance of Plymouth, NC, Wayne Ammons Howell, Jr. of Pinetown, NC, Elizabeth Gabrielle Brown and Megan Athleen Brown of Washington, NC, Forrest Chandler Howell, Daniel Griffin Howell, Cameron William Howell of Pinetown, NC. She was preceded in death by a grandson Stuart Brown.

    Her great grandchildren, Emerson Thomas Howell, Allie Elizabeth Howell, Hamilton Layne Howell, Gage Holmes Boyd, Bowen Thomas Honeycutt and Claire Elizabeth Howell.

    We would like to recognize her caregiver and companion Maria Silvia Salas Valle whom she loved like a daughter and also caregiver Maria Lupita G. Ramirez.

    She is survived by two sisters Hazel A. Snipes of Marion, SC, Annie Catherine A. Collins and husband Leston of Winston-Salem, NC.

    She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Gloria H Coughenhour and husband Clarence of Laurinburg, NC, Wanda H. Stanton and husband Robert of Bennettsville, SC, Freda H. Mann and husband Patrick of Beaverton, Oregon and one deceased sister-in-law Anne H. Braswell.

    She was preceded in death by her brother Daniel Thomas Ammons, Jr., and sisters Sadie A. Stephens, Margarette A. Baxley and Julia A. McLaurin.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church of Washington, 304 W. Second Street, officiated by the Rev. William Creech and a dear family friend Mr. Arnold Pressey. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery of Washington, NC. Pallbearers are her sons, Vernon F. Howell, Jr., Fred Thomas Howell, Colon Whitfield Howell, Wayne Ammons Howell, Forrest Glenn Howell, son-in-law, Billy Eakes Brown and nephew Jake Coughenhour.

    The family will receive friends on Friday, April 12, 2013 from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington, 900 John Small Ave., Washington, NC and other times at the home located at 1169 Ripp Hwy., Pinetown, NC.

    The Howell family wishes to thank the members of the Pinetown Rescue Squad and all other medical personnel for their assistance during our time of need.

    In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Howell requested that donations be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or Children's Home of your choice.
