Will Beaufort County's Commissioners be Resolved to Do What is Necessary Regarding School Choice? | Eastern NC Now

Beaufort County's Commissioners will be asked to support School Choice completely as an ideal in the educational process, dedicated to evolve to better serve the entire public.

ENCNow
Beaufort County's Commissioners will be asked to support School Choice completely as an ideal in the educational process, a process dedicated to evolve to better serve the entire public. Your guess is as good as mine whether the Beaufort County government's Center - Left Coalition, the controlling force in Beaufort County's government, will fully support this recent landmark legislation by the North Carolina General Assembly.

For my part, for my constituents, my best estimation to create a climate of repair for a mostly failed or failing public education industry, and that is to force the public education monopoly to know the resistance of honest competition. If this reality does not force the Public Education Industry to make better considered decisions, then, quite possibly, it does not deserve to survive. Regardless of whether the Public Education Industry survives of not, the one truism that we Americans can depend on is that real education will survive and thrive, due to a monopoly diminished, and stark competition burnishing the touchstone to perpetual knowledge.

Resolution in Acceptance of Universal School Choice and Dedicated to its Evolution to Better Serve the Publics' Complete Interests

Whereas, in the 2023 long session of the North Carolina General Assembly Universal School Choice was passed into law; and,

Whereas, in that same long session, many associative and ancillary bills were passed regarding the more efficient future practice of educating our future generations, whereby these bills signify that the finished product of School Choice will be an evolving process; therefore,

Let it be resolved, that Beaufort County's Commissioners are in full acceptance of Universal School Choice, and are dedicated to its evolution to better serve the publics' interest in affording the complete educational needs necessary to better benefit the expanding requirements of our People, and to sustain the continued viability of this Constitutional Republic.

Written by Beaufort County Commissioner Stan Deatherage to be ratified on November 6, 2023, and sent by email to all members of the North Carolina General Assembly, and the remaining 99 county governments of North Carolina.

poll#210
As School Choice is beginning to take shape in North Carolina: What is your position on what it should evolve into?
School Choice is only a distraction from the promise of real public education.
School Choice, as it evolves into its best model to serve the public' s education needs, this benefit will provide choices outside of the historic construct supporting the public school monopoly.
School Choice - I cannot see how it serves the Education Industry.

Washingtonian: Oh, the woes and the pangs from the Indoctrination of your flesh and blood ... Mostly by strangers of a great ambition.

On another note: The resolution failed 3 to 4, with the victorious commissioners voting against the core of the Center - Left Coalition.

Obviously, we need real Republicans serving on the board of Beaufort County Commissioners.

At some point, I will update this resolution and give the Center - Left Coalition another opportunity to show their far less than free market colors.

When my children were in school, I determined that the school system wanted three things from me:
My child. My money. AND, for me to butt out!!

BC Citizen: I know. Rarely do the more established board members call me back, and some of these are so-called "Republicans," which of course, drops my confidence in them, understandably, to a very low level.

Maybe they respond to people far better connected than you and me, BC Citizen.

I will not get into the weeds here, but I don't believe that some of these school board members actually understand the political component within the paradigm of their elected jobs.

So far, the three new board members are responsive to my queries, which I expect to continue; I will expect that same flow of communication from the newly elected school board members in the 2024 election.

I would do that Stan. However, the board members are terrible at responding to concerns. In a perfect world, the schoolboard should make every opportunity available to hear from the parents. Unfortunately, BC School board is far from perfect and makes parents jump through hurdles to be able to speak on issues. With the untelevised meetings a poor write-ups of their minutes, its like they don't want you involved.

BCCitizen: All of these issues are School Board issues, and I would suggest that you interact with your favorite school board member.

Schools should be extremely close to parents and the community.

I have a legitimate question, as I have not done a lot of research into this topic in our county. How will this affect the staffing level, which Dr. Cheeseman controls, for schools? For example, transfers are being denied for students to attend Bath because their classrooms are full. Will this affect families who live in the district? Will they still be able to send their children to the school in their district without having over crowded classrooms and understaffed schools? It is no secret that Bath Elementary is considered the best "private-public school". As long as this doesn't affect the quality of education in a negative manner, I am all for it. If you live out of the district, will you be tasked with providing transportation or will transportation be provided? Will Dr. Cheeseman still have the ability to pick and choose to what level he staffs a school and which classes he chooses to get rid of if school choice passes?.....

Continued..... If Dr. Cheeseman can give and take funding as he chooses, which he has been doing. it is going to be difficult for individual schools to be able to put in place classes, learning techniques, curriculum, clubs, etc that make their school desirable to kids and parents outside of their district. Dr. Cheeseman needs his reigns tightened before this is put in place. Or else the schools that they want to succeed will be the ones receiving the funding to do so. Yes, funding is based on population in the school. But that money goes to the school board to allocate and that board is run at the demands of Dr. Cheeseman.
