Israel’s Mossad Foils Iranian-Backed Terrorist Attack Against Jews In Brazil | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Top Israeli intelligence officials announced this week that they helped foil an Iranian-backed terrorist attack against Jews living Brazil.

    The news was made public in a rare joint statement released by the Prime Minister's office and the Institute for Intelligence and Special Operations, better known as "the Mossad."

    "The Brazilian security services, together with the Mossad and its partners in the Israeli security community, alongside additional international security agencies, foiled a terrorist attack in Brazil, planned by the Hezbollah terrorist organization, directed and financed by Iran," the statement said. "This was an extensive network that operated in additional countries."

    "The Mossad thanks the Brazilian security services for the arrest of a terrorist cell that was operated by Hezbollah in order to carry out an attack on Israeli and Jewish targets in Brazil," the statement continued. "Given the backdrop of the war in Gaza against the Hamas terrorist organization, Hezbollah and the Iranian regime are continuing to operate around the world in order to attack Israeli, Jewish and Western targets."

    The Mossad added that it continues to work around the clock to stop terrorist attacks against Jews and Israeli nationals "wherever necessary, by various methods."

    Brazil's Federal Police confirmed the news, saying in a statement that they conducted an operation "interrupting preparatory acts of terrorism and obtaining evidence of possible recruitment of Brazilians to carry out extremist acts in the country."

    "Federal police officers served two temporary arrest warrants and 11 search and seizure warrants, issued by the Judicial Subsection of Belo Horizonte, in the states of Minas Gerais, São Paulo and the Federal District," the statement said. "Recruiters and recruits must respond for the crimes of forming or joining a terrorist organization and carrying out preparatory acts of terrorism, whose maximum penalties, if added together, reach 15 years and 6 months in prison."

    Brazil said that crimes are considered heinous in nature and thus are "considered non-bailable, ineligible for grace, amnesty or pardon, and the sentence for these crimes is initially carried out under a closed regime, regardless of whether the conviction becomes final."
