Superintendent Truitt Files for Re-Election | Eastern NC Now

    RALEIGH     Catherine Truitt filed Monday to seek a second term as North Carolina's Superintendent of Public Instruction.

    In just three years leading the state's Department of Public Instruction, Truitt has focused on delivering better outcomes for every child in North Carolina.

    A few of the many reforms Truitt has championed and helped deliver:

• Worked with lawmakers and law enforcement to equip schools with funding, training, and staff they need to keep students safe.
• Pushed legislation and launched new initiatives to prepare students for the workforce upon graduation.
• Worked to improve reading achievement through the science of reading and phonics. Data released just last week show this work is paying off, as North Carolina's first, second and third graders made gains that outpace the rest of the country.
• Created transparency that gives parents more information and input into their child's education, including details about their curriculum and well-being.

    "Whether it's helping schools keep students safe, ensuring children learn to read, preparing students for jobs after graduation, or giving families more input, our students deserve leaders who demand results," Truitt said. "I'm running for re-election to continue delivering results and better outcomes for all of our children."
