Governor Cooper Announces State Boards and Commissions Appointments | Eastern North Carolina Now

    RALEIGH: Today, Governor Roy Cooper announced appointments to boards and commissions.

    Gov. Cooper has appointed the following member to serve on the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission:

  • David Sherlin of Raleigh as a member at-large. Sherlin is a Partner at Epstein Sherlin PLLC. He was previously at Holt Sherlin, LLP. He has a long history of representing people in the legal system who were injured due to no fault of their own, working at Kirby & Holt, LLP and the Wake County DA's office.

    Gov. Cooper has appointed the following member to serve on the North Carolina Building Code Council:

  • Taiwo Jaiyeoba of Greensboro as a municipal elected official or city manager. Jaiyeoba is the Greensboro City Manager. Prior to joining the City of Greensboro, Jaiyeoba was an Assistant City Manager and Director of Planning with the City of Charlotte.

    Gov. Cooper has appointed the following member to serve on the North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities:

  • Dr. Madhav Swaminathan of Durham as a person with developmental disabilities or parent/guardian of a child with developmental disabilities or immediate relative/guardian of an adult with a mentally impairing developmental disability. Swaminathan is the Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs and a Professor of Anesthesiology for Duke University School of Medicine.

    Gov. Cooper has appointed the following members to serve on the Governor's Environmental Justice Advisory Council:

  • Justin Flores of Chapel Hill as a member at-large. Flores is Vice President of the Farm Labor Organizing Committee.
  • Demico Guy of Charlotte as a member at-large. Guy is an Engineering Technician at the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Soil and Water Division.
  • Marilyn Marsh-Robinson of Knightdale as a member at-large. Marsh-Robinson is the Director of Partnerships and Outreach at the Environmental Defense Fund.
  • Dr. James H. Johnson, Jr. of Chapel Hill as a member at-large and co-chair. Johnson is the William R. Kenan, Jr. Distinguished Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship and Director of the Urban Investment Strategies Center at UNC Chapel Hill. Johnson was also the chair of the Department of Environmental Quality Secretary's Environmental Justice and Equity Advisory Board from 2018-2023.
  • Dr. Marian Johnson-Thompson of Durham as a member at-large. Johnson-Thompson is a Professor Emerita of Biology and Environmental Sciences at the University of the District of Columbia and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Maternal and Child Health at the UNC Chapel Hill School of Public Health.
  • Naeema Muhammad of Rocky Mount as a member at-large. Muhammad is a Senior Advisor for the North Carolina Environmental Justice Network and has been a community organizer for the network since 2001.
  • Daisha Wall of Charlotte as a member at-large. Wall is a Community Science Manager at CleanAIRE NC.
  • Sherri White Williamson of Clinton as a member at-large. Williamson is the Director of Environmental Justice Strategy at the North Carolina Conservation Network.
  • Dr. Rebecca Witter of Sugar Grove as a member at-large. Witter is an Associate Professor of Sustainable Development at Appalachian State University.
  • Dr. Courtney G. Woods of Durham as a member at-large. Woods is an Associate Professor of Environmental Sciences and MPH Program Director at UNC Chapel Hill. She also leads the Environmental Justice Action Research Clinic.

    Gov. Cooper has appointed the following member to serve on the Executive Mansion Fund Incorporated Board of Directors:

  • Jennifer Caldwell Vogel of Asheville as a member at-large. Vogel is a residential realtor with Beverly-Hanks & Associates. She also serves on the Governor's Western Residence Board of Directors.

    Gov. Cooper has appointed the following member to serve on the North Carolina Forestry Advisory Council:

  • Kyle Vann Eudy of Peachland as a representative of a banking institution that manages forestland. Eudy is a Senior Financial Advisor and Executive Vice President of Uwharrie Investment Advisors, where he helps investors seek and acquire land investments.

    Gov. Cooper has appointed the following member to serve on the North Carolina Military Affairs Commission:

  • Colonel Donald L. Porter of Fayetteville as someone who is retired military residing near Fort Liberty. Porter is a retired US Army Colonel, a past chair of the Fayetteville State University Board of Trustees and is now the Chair of the Fayetteville Public Works Commission.

    Gov. Cooper has appointed the following member to serve on the North Carolina State Museum of Natural Sciences Advisory Commission:

  • Kelli Beale Fletcher of Raleigh as an at-large member. Fletcher is an Account Supervisor for E&V Strategic Communications. She is the former Director of PAN Communications, where she partnered with clients in the technology industry, developing market positioning and message creation for companies and executives.

    Gov. Cooper has appointed the following member to serve on the North Carolina State Bar Grievance Review Committee:

  • C. Colon Willoughby, Jr. of Raleigh as a member at-large. Willoughby is a Solo Practitioner at his own law firm. Willoughby was Wake County District Attorney from 1987-2014 and then spent 7 years as a Partner at McGuireWoods LLP.

    Gov. Cooper has appointed the following member to serve on the Tryon Palace Commission:

  • Warren L. Bingham of Cary as a member at-large. Bingham is the planned giving officer of PBS North Carolina and leader of their Philanthropic Services Division. This includes promoting, marketing, and arranging financial commitments within the estate plans of PBS NC's financial supporters.
