    Mr. Major Colon Alligood, Sr., age 76, a resident of Washington, NC died Thursday March 21, 2024, at his home with family by his side.

    A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday March 25, 2024, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington officiated by Pastor Greg Ramsey and Rev. Gary Bateman. A burial will follow in the Alligood Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews Billy "Lil Bill" Boyd, David "Lil Dave" Nichols, Jr., Ryan Keith "Ryan" Alligood, Donald "Paul" Alligood, Stephen Nichols, and Robert Midgett. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Dale Woolard, Stetson Mann, Ted Woolard and Brian Woolard

    The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday March 24, 2024, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.

    Mr. Alligood was born in Beaufort County on January 7, 1948, son of the late Clarence Thomas Alligood and the late Elsie Woolard Alligood. He was a 1967 graduate of Washington High School. On November 3, 1967, he married the love of his life, the former, Brenda Carol Midgett who survives. Mr. Alligood was an avid hunter, with a passion for deer hunting. He loved hearing his dogs on the trail of a deer running through the Southern Dismal Wildlife Club. A true hunter, he also loved turkey, rabbit, and dove hunting. A man of few words, if you struck up a conversation about hunting, he could talk all day.

    A welder by trade, he retired from Weir Valves, formerly Atwood & Morill in Washington after forty years of service. Having grown up on a farm, he knew the value of hard work.

    Surviving along with his loving wife, Carol, of the home is a daughter: Amanda Alligood Edwards and her husband Joel of Washington; brother: Tony Kent Alligood of SC; a sister: Joyce Evans of Washington; and two grandchildren: Kayla Alligood Lassiter and her husband Tyler and Chole Marie Alligood. Mr. Alligood was predeceased, along with his parents, by a son: Major Colon "Rufus" Alligood, Jr.; two brothers: Clarence G. Alligood and Don Carson Alligood; and a sister: Christine Alligood.

    In lieu of flowers the family kindly request that memorial contributions be made to Carol Alligood, 150 Alligood Drive, Washington, NC 27889.
