Dera Mae Woolard Silverthorne | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Mrs. Dera Mae Woolard Silverthorne, age 91, a resident of Washington, NC died on Sunday March 31, 2024, at Ridgewood Living & Rehabilitation Center in Washington.

    The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday April 5, 2024, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington. Following the visitation, family and friends will go in procession to Oakdale Cemetery for a graveside service officiated by Mike Caton. Honorary pallbearers will be Kent Paul, Jason Paul, Jacob Jacobus, Jared Jacobus, Andy Woolard, and Steven Silverthorne.

    Mrs. Silverthorne was born in Beaufort County on September 9, 1932, daughter of the late Fenner Vernon Woolard and the late Retha Louise Gurganus Woolard. On October 16, 1948, she married William Henry Silverthorne who preceded her in death on July 26, 2004. She dedicated her time to her family by being a homemaker. Her enjoyment of ceramics at Gladys' Ceramics and Margaret's Ceramics enabled her to not only make ceramic dolls but she also sewed dresses for them to be dressed in. Mrs. Silverthorne was a member of the Pamlico River Quilters Guild, Beaver Dam Church of Christ, BDCOC Women's Union, and Susie Gray Fitness Center. Through her church she loved volunteering at Roanoke Christian Service Camp and working in their kitchen. She definitely had a servant's heart.

    Survivors include her children: Kay Silverthorne Plice and her husband Jim of Grimesland, Nicolette "Nikki" Silverthorne Woolard of Washington, and William Vernon Silverthorne and his wife Teresa of Washington, siblings: Fenner V. Woolard Jr. and wife Mary Beth of Chesapeake, VA, Phil O. Woolard and wife Bertha "Doodle Bug" of Chesapeake, VA, Jerry "JW" Woolard and wife Norma Jean of Washington, Sue W. Woolard of Washington; grandchildren: Dawn Runyan, Jacob Jacobus, Jared Jacobus, Penny Paul, Kent Paul, Jason Paul, Jody Sullivan, Andy Woolard, and Steven Silverthorne; thirteen great grandchildren; and a great great grandchild.

    Mrs. Silverthorne was predeceased, along with her parents and husband by a daughter: Debra Silverthorne Paul; brothers: Robert Lavern Woolard, Henry Lafayette "Achie" Woolard, and Donald Woolard; sisters: Johnnie W. Goodbred, and Frances Estell W. Newcomb; brothers-in-law: Gene Autry Woolard, Lloyd "Red" Goodbred, and Clarence Newcomb; sisters-in-law: Margaret L. Woolard, "Miriam" P. Woolard, and Margie S. Woolard; and a deceased son-in-law: Jackie Kent Paul.

    In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to Roanoke Christian Service Camp, P.O.
