    Roderick (Rod) Rathbun, age 77, passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. Born on April 24,1947 in Little Falls, NY. Rod lived a life filled with service, dedication, and adventure.

    Rod graduated from Fort Plain High School in 1965 and soon after enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 19. He served with distinction in the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam, achieving the rank of E-5, Sergeant, a testament to his bravery and commitment to his country. After his honorable service, Rod continued his education, attending Utica College of Syracuse University.

    Following his studies, Rod embarked on a career in the textile industry, working across various states, including North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Florida, and New York. With a keen entrepreneurial spirit, he eventually founded his own business, R-Tex, where he successfully established two patents, leaving a mark in the industry. Rod was a man of many passions, including music, poetry, fishing, and golf, pursuits that brought joy to both him and those around him.

    Rod was preceded in death by his father, John Rathbun, and his mother, Elizabeth (Betty) Rathbun, daughter, Greta Webb, brothers, Michael, Thomas, and Malcolm Rathbun, and a sister, Diane Hughes.

    Survivors include his wife, Sharon Woolard Rathbun of the home, his children, Patricia Webster, Roderick Elton Rathbun, II (Catherine) of Florida, John Rathbun (Angela) of New York, Victoria Clemente (Stephen) of New York, Andrew Rathbun (Jenna) of Wyoming, Nicholas Rathbun (Vaidehi) of Texas, brothers John "Bud" Rathbun of New York, Terry Rathbun of New York and Rick Rathbun (Heather) of New York, sisters Judy Masten (Jim) of New York, Betsy Bender (Tony) of New York, Rebecca Bruce (Bob) of New York and Bonnie Snell (Wayne) of New York.

    Rod was a proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren and great-grandfather to 3, with numerous special nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts. Known for his entrepreneurial drive, love of family, and zest for life, Rod leaves behind a legacy of resilience, creativity, and compassion.

    A service to celebrate Rod's life will be held at the Jonathan D. Woolard Cemetery, on Betsy Elbow Rd, with Rev. Gary Bateman officiating on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 11.00 AM. The family welcomes all who wish to honor Rod's memory and join in remembering his remarkable journey.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors Project, 4899 Belfort Rd, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
