Gov. Newsome cut California fire prevention budget by $101 Million last year | Eastern North Carolina Now

on top of $17.6 Million cut a few months ago to Los Angeles fire department

California has always been prone to wildfires this time of year when the Santa Anna winds tend to kick up.  For decades the state has budgeted funds for fire prevention that include forestry management, controlled burns to eliminate brush that could fuel wildfires, and other measures.  Less than a year ago, Governor Gavin Newsome recommended cutting the state's fire prevention budget by $101 Million, so a lot fewer of those activities were undertaken.  The results of that astounding diversion of funds shows in what has happened is Los Angeles with five devastating wildfires.  The Democrat controlled state legislature voted to approve those cuts in fire prevention funds.

Additionally, Newsome approved diversion of water that should have been kept in resevoirs for fighting wildfires to benefit a species of small fish.  Newsome put those little fish ahead of the people of Los Angeles.  Further, the Santa Yuez Resevoir which normally provides a water supply of 117 million gallons to Pacific Pallisades was closed and empty when the fire hit.

This diversion of funds away from firefighting is on top of leftwing Democrat Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass asking for a $23 Million reduction in the fire fighting budget of the city, and finally actually getting a $17.6 Million cut to firefighting.  She was warned at the time that these cuts could lead to disaster if a major wildfire broke out.  It has.

The Los Angeles Fire Department's pushing DEI has also come under attack, as it has likely caused some people to DIE in this fire.  A video has emerged of the assistant fire chief, who headed their DEI department, saying that it was important that fire fighters "look like" the people they were serving.  She deflected a woman's complaint that by cutting standards for physical ability to do the job, a firefigher might not be able to lift her husband out of a burning building by saying that he should not have been in the burning building in the first place.  The video can be watched in the link below;

Overall, the Democrats in California exposed their total inability to govern when it comes to the most basic things a government is supposed to do:

The media has now identified at least $150 million in cuts Gov. Newsom made to the fire prevention budget, and there may be more. Also, he claimed he would be clearing 90,000 acres of brush that spreads fires, but only did 12,000.

Actress Justine Bateman was on TV letting the incompetent California politicians have it, telling people to stop voting just for those with a D by their name, and instead vote based on competence to do the job. She accused California Governor Newsome of "being too stupid to even see how incompetent he is." She blasted them for failing to do the most basic things in governance like fire and police protection. She called upon Newsome and Bass to resign out of shame.

California law provides for voters to remove politicians in the middle of their terms by recall. A petition is circulated, and if it gets enough valid signatures, it forces a vote to remove the politician in the middle of their term. It would not surprise me to see recall petitions start to circulate on both Governor Newsome and Mayor Bass.

Under Newsome, the sanctuary state of California has been spending lots of money on illegal aliens, including giving them more medical covoerage. It is likely that fire protection was one of the things cut for those additional funds for illegal aliens.
