Elwood Reid Jefferson | Eastern NC Now

    Mr. Elwood Reid Jefferson, age 76, a resident of Hernando, MS, and a former resident of Bath, NC passed away on Sunday March 23, 2025.

    Elwood was born on December 16, 1948, son of the late Vernon Elwood Jefferson and the late Jesse Mae Barnett Jefferson. He attended First Global Methodist Church. Elwood served his country honorably in the United States Army having served two tours in Vietnam during active wartime and earned multiple medals. Locally Elwood worked for many years at Flanders Filters in Washington. In his retirement he found work at Advanced Auto in Southaven, MS and loved every second of it, especially being around his coworkers.

    Elwood volunteered as a coach for various children's sports for as long as he was capable. He enjoyed spending his time outside golfing, camping, fishing, and he had a special place in his heart for the beach. Elwood had great taste in music and loved listening to anything relating to oldies rock and beach music.

    Elwood spent his life bringing joy and jokes to others. He believed in God, his family, and his country. He devoted his life to his children, wife, and his community. He never met a stranger. His presence will forever be felt and he will always be dearly missed.

    Elwood is survived by his wife, Sandra; children: Kristin Forbes (Dylan) of Gastonia, NC, Katherine Forbes (Bobbie) of Oxford, MS, Grace Jefferson of Hernando, MS, and Emma Jefferson of Hernando, MS, Robert Jefferson and Jason Jefferson, sister: Brenda Adams of Bath, two devoted sister in laws, and his many loving nieces and nephews. Elwood was preceded in death by his parents, his brother: Michael Jefferson; and his granddaughter: Birdie Cordelia Forbes-Pursley.

    Elwood will be laid to rest in the Boyd Family Cemetery located on Boyd Road, in Pinetown, NC at 2:00 p.m. Friday April 4th, 2025, officiated by Rick Watford. He always spoke longingly and lovingly of Bath and never stopped sharing his many happy memories of his time there. It brings us great comfort and peace to know we are able to bring him home, where he always wanted to be.

    His sister Brenda Adams is hosting a casual receiving of family and friends, after the graveside service. For those that would like to visit at her house, located at 536 Ward Rd., Washington, NC 27889.
