Roland Homer Hamilton,81, a resident of Pamlico Village in Washington, passed away on April 23, 2025 at ECU Beaufort Hospital surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be at 10AM Tuesday, April 29, followed by a memorial service at 11AM at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory.

Roland was born on December 23, 1943 to Dennis and Daisy Tuten Hamilton. The fifth born of seven children, he was predeceased by all of his siblings: Polly Britt(Jack), Pauline Ambrose(Bobby), Edgar Paul Hamilton, Talmadge Hamilton(Dawn), Ronald Hamilton (his identical twin), and Peggy Boyd(Woodrow).

Roland graduated from Bath High School. He was a US Navy veteran, having served during The Cuban Blockade. He was on the start-up crew at Weyerhauser in New Bern and retired from there after 35 Years of service. He was a notably talented mechanic and carpenter and could build or fix just about anything. Tinkering on things in his workshop was one of his favorite pastimes. He was also an avid fisherman and loved being out on the river and sounds. For the last two decades he and Kathy split their time between Washington and Cape Carteret/ Peletier spending time with friends, family and following the fish.

Roland is survived by his wife, Kathryn Taber Hamilton. He was managed by their white Bichon named "Miss Penny", who went with him everywhere. He was the proud father of three children, Holly Alligood (Chris), of Bath,NC, Erica Ellis(Mark) of Gleneden Beach, Oregon, and Jared Hamilton of Washington,NC. He cherished his grandchildren, Taylor Dozier(Tyler), Rhett Alligood (James McMillan), Rhys Alligood, Tavner Casey (Makayla), Stephen Hamilton, Lauren Hamilton and Rhynn Alligood. He adored his great grandchildren, Benson and Fayeleigh and was anticipating a new one in the fall.

Papa Willie, as he was affectionately known by his family, was a doting family man who cherished family get-togethers, especially any that included a chocolate cake or banana pudding. He and "Miss Penny" were daily walkers of the Washington waterfront. His grandchildren remember him roller skating with them well into his 70's and watching him celebrate his 75th birthday with a skydive. His 80th birthday was celebrated by a trip with his three children across Oregon to hike and fish and meet his first great grandchild. He will be remembered and cherished for the love and care provided for his mother, siblings, wife, children and grandchildren.
