Governor McCrory Announces Appointments | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Raleigh, NC     The Office of Governor McCrory announced the following appointments to the newly formed North Carolina Military Affairs Commission.

    The Military Affairs Commission provides advice, counsel, and recommendations to the governor, General Assembly, secretary of commerce and other state agencies on programs and legislation impacting North Carolina's military installations. The commission will hold its first meeting today at 1:00 p.m. at the Department of Transportation Building in Raleigh.

    Appointed to the commission are:

   •  Bob Dickerson (Onslow County) - Dickerson retired in 2008 as commanding general of Marine Corps bases and stations on the East Coast, including Camp Lejeune. His personal decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal and two Legions of Merit. Dickerson is serving in a position designated for a person residing near Camp Lejeune, who is retired from the military and is actively involved in a military affairs organization, or a person who is involved in military issues through civic, commercial, or governmental relationships. His term length is three years.

   •  Dan K. McNeill (Cumberland County) - McNeill retired in 2008 after more than 40 years of commissioned service. He has served with Special Forces, mechanized infantry and aviation units. He is a retired four-star general. McNeill is serving in a position designated for a person residing near Ft. Bragg, who is retired from the military and is actively involved in a military affairs organization, or a person who is involved in military issues through civic, commercial, or governmental relationships. His term length is two years.

   •  W.A. "Bill" Lehmann (Pasquotank County) - Lehmann is a retired Coast Guard and commercial airline pilot. He is a former city councilman in Elizabeth City, and has also served on the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Airport Authority, as well as the Pasquotank Planning Commission. Lehmann is serving in a position designated for a person residing near Coast Guard Station Elizabeth City, who is retired from the military and is actively involved in a military affairs organization, or a person who is involved in military issues through civic, commercial, or governmental relationships. His term length is three years.

   •  John Matthews (Wake County) - Matthews served as an energy infrastructure analyst, an arms trade analyst, European CT Arms trade officer and a special duty intelligence officer for the U.S. Navy. He now serves as executive vice president of Baker Roofing Company and president of Baker Renewable Energy. He is serving in a position designated for a person in any part of the state who is involved in military issues through civic, commercial, or governmental relationships. His term length is two years.

   •  Joy Thrash (Cumberland County) - Thrash is the executive director of the North Carolina Defense Business Association, a corporation that serves as a professional trade association for the defense industry in the state. She is an honorary member of the 82nd Airborne and a member of several committees, including the Bragg Special Activities Committee. She is serving in a position designated for a person in any part of the state who is involved in military issues through civic, commercial, or governmental relationships. Her term length is two years.

   •  Josh Glover (New Hanover County) - Glover served 10 years as a Marine special operations and infantry officer and now helps community banks and credit unions implement cloud-based operating systems. Glover's military decorations include the Silver Star, Purple Heart and many other service awards. He is serving in a position designated for a person in any part of the state who is involved in military issues through civic, commercial, or governmental relationships. His term length is two years.

   •  Cornelius "Cornell" Wilson (Mecklenburg County) - Wilson is a U.S. Marine Corps major general serving as director of the Reserve Affairs Division, Manpower & Reserve Affairs, Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps in Quantico, Virginia. He has previously served as major general U.S. Marine Corps Reserve commanding general. He is serving in a position designated for a person in any part of the state who is involved in military issues through civic, commercial, or governmental relationships. His term length is two years.

   •  Mabry "Bud" Martin (Forsyth County) - Martin is a retired brigadier general in the Army National Guard. He serves on the finance council for Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, is the chairman of the church's stewardship commission and is also a member of the N.C. Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve. Martin will serve as chairman of the commission. He is serving in a position designated for a person in any part of the state who is involved in military issues through civic, commercial, or governmental relationships. His term length is two years.

   •  Paul Dordal (Cumberland County) - Dordal is a retired brigadier general for the U.S. Air Force. He now serves as a military defense consultant. He briefed the president and Congress on combat operations as Operation Desert Storm commenced. He led the BRAC Regional Task Force in the Fort Bragg area for five years. He is serving in a position designated for a person in any part of the state who is involved in military issues through civic, commercial, or governmental relationships. His term length is two years.

   •  Jeremiah Daniels (Wayne County) - Daniels is vice president of operations and is responsible for project management, field operations, equipment and fleet management and safety for Daniels & Daniels Construction Company. He is a certified United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) quality control manager. He is also an honorary commander of the Seymour Johnson AFB Military Affairs Committee. Daniels is serving in a position designated for a person residing near Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, who is retired from the military and is actively involved in a military affairs organization, or a person who is involved in military issues through civic, commercial, or governmental relationships. His term length is three years.

    This commission was created by Senate Bill 613 which was signed by Governor McCrory on July 3. This law replaces a previous Military Affairs Commission.
