Cheeseman and allies stalling on taking the woke out of school curriculum | Eastern North Carolina Now

Superintendent Cheeseman and his allies on the school board are stalling on trying to get the woke out of our school curriculum.  This is another issue that needs attention.

Cheeseman's handpicked committee two years ago tried to push through the woke Savvas social studies curriculum which contained DEI and CRT.  With standing room crowds of parents opposing it, they finally withdrew it.  They have been stalling ever since, and one wonders what it is they are teaching from now.  Efforts to find a more acceptable social studies curriculum have been snubbed.  This issue is still in limbo, although word has it that a couple of school board members who are aligned with Cheeseman are back to pushing Savvas behind closed doors.

Then came math.  Cheeseman's handpicked committee called for a curriculum called Bridges.  His curriculum guru a Dr. Parker, told the school board that Bridges was "not Common Core" at one school board meeting.  Common Core is a controversial curriculum blamed for the inability of students today to learn math as well as their predecessors.  Then after some school board members did their homework and found that Bridges own website described their curriculum as "aligned with Common Core" and Dr. Parker had to back up and admit that it IS Common Core, after all.  One wonders if Parker's first statement was a deliberate misstatement of fact or whether he just did not know and was winging it.  Then it developed that Bridges also contained the "woke" DEI.  Nonetheless, a divided school board approved Bridges and it is now in use.

With social studies still in limbo, now they are tackling science.  One can only wonder what will be brought forth there.  Will we see a proposed curriculum that pushes radical gender ideology that there are more than two genders or that people can change genders by deciding to do so?  Time will tell.
