US DoE issues emergency order to pause climate rules for NC to avoid blackouts | Eastern NC Now

Recently Spain and Portugal suffered nationwide blackouts due to reliance on unreliable wind and solar power.  With demand for power soaring with a heat dome here in the US, the Department of Energy has taken steps to try to prevent that here.  Biden era climate rules place limits on the use of dependable coal fired power plants by American utilities, and the DoE's emergency order has removed all of those restrictions to allow utilities to run coal and other conventional plants at full capacity.

One of the problems facing North Carolina in the future is that our "woke" energy monopoly Duke Energy is totally wrapped up in the climate alarmist doctrine of switching to wind and solar.  They are closing coal plants for good, and ultimately they will have no such resources to deploy in energy emergencies.  This has been pushed by NC's Green New Deal, HB951, rammed through the legislature by liberal senate boss Phil Berger.  Berger cares nothing about making electricity much more expensive and much less reliable for NC citizens.  He just wants to brownnose the wokesters running Duke Energy.

Meanwhile, "woke" green energy fanatic Maryland came close to a grid collapse due to the inadequacy of wind and solar, and had to be bailed out by Pennsylvania, which still has its dependable coal plants on duty.  Maryland energy officials have acknowledged that their transition to wind and solar will likely lead to frequent rolling blackouts.
