For Immediate Release:

GREENVILLE, NC     Two hospitals within Vidant Health earned top honors in patient experience surveys among hospitals across the country.

HealthStream Research, a national data collection service, awarded Excellence through Insight honors to the hospitals for their commitment to providing exceptional patient experiences. These awards recognize the facilities that excel in their ability to gain insight into the patients, employees, physicians and community perceptions through research and to use that information to build excellence within their organization.

"It is an honor for our hospitals to be singled out as superior performers in making sure patients and their families have good experiences," said Dr. David Herman, president and CEO of Vidant Health. "This recognition reflects the exceptional care that physicians and staff provide every day."

The Vidant Health hospitals receiving the awards are:

Vidant Bertie Hospital, Windsor, for inpatient - same-day surgery unit

Vidant Edgecombe Hospital, Tarboro, for inpatient - maternity unit

Vidant Health hospitals were chosen for receiving the highest ratings in overall patient experience from among HealthStream's clients, as well as exceeding industry standards.

"We are very proud of the work of our surgery unit and the hospital team that supports them," said Jeff Sackrison, president of Vidant Bertie Hospital. "Our staff and physicians work hard to provide the safe, attentive care our patients expect and deserve. Our health system values include 'compassion, our distinction' and 'teamwork, our advantage.' This award is great recognition of how our staff demonstrates these values every day."

"This award is the result of our patient-centered approach to care and the teamwork of our caregivers," said Wick Baker, president of Vidant Edgecombe Hospital. "I'm very proud of the work being done on our maternity service, and their commitment to provide the very best to our patients."

The competition featured hospitals of similar size competing against each other.

To qualify for an award, a hospital must have been a patient experience-tracking client of HealthStream Research in 2012, scored in the 75th percentile or higher, and surveyed a minimum of 100 patients.

Winners were recognized during an awards ceremony at the HealthStream Summit on October 17 in Nashville, Tenn.
