Dog Adoption and Humane Awards | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Press Release:

Raleigh, NC - Governor Pat McCrory and First Lady Ann McCrory invite you to a Dog Adoption and Humane Awards event at the Executive Mansion on Saturday, November 16, 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Pets are the heart of many North Carolina homes. An estimated 70 percent of households in North Carolina have at least one companion animal.

"Help brighten the holidays with a new addition to your family," said First Lady Ann McCrory. "Please help by bringing home a new dog or just coming out to show your support."

The Wake County SPCA, Humane Society of Charlotte and Guilford County Shelter will provide as many as 30 dogs for adoption to the Executive Mansion. Kids will be welcomed to sit down for storytelling or dog face painting as well.

Please join the governor and first lady for this special event. Email a list of attendees' names to: eventRSVP@nc.gov by Thursday, November 14.

Several of the adoptable puppies coming to the mansion are the rescued puppies from the Pender County puppy mill bust. First Lady Ann McCrory, Representative Jason Saine and Senator Neal Hunt will continue to urge legislators to take action on House Bill 930, bipartisan legislation that establishes basic standards of care for large commercial dog breeding facilities and helps ensure that all dogs are treated humanely.

"I applaud the First Lady on continuing to work on these important issues," said Representative Saine. "It's nice to think about what joy our pets can bring to us year in and year out."

Senator Hunt and his family have adopted rescued animals. "We've got two rescues and we love them! Come to the Governor's Mansion and find one for yourself."

Depicted above: Ricky Bobby, a Dachshund, was one of 56 puppies rescued from a puppy mill in Sampson County. A hardened disc in his hind quarters that had gone untreated for years left him paralyzed without the use of his two back legs. This led to him having to drag his hind legs which caused sores to develop on his underside. Now, Ricky Bobby lives with his new companion Megan Bliss, who crafted a cart from donated materials to help him get around.
