What REALLY happened on election day last Tuesday? How did we end up in this mess? | Eastern NC Now

Many have been scratching their heads over last Tuesday's election results.  Some are suspicious of math that does not seem to add up.  Some are looking at flaws in the GOP campaign.  Until we get to the bottom of this disaster, how to approach 2028 will not come into focus.

There is little doubt that the usual off year swing against the party in power had an impact, as did the increase in gas prices.  There was some poor candidate selection on the GOP's part like in North and South Carolina, but then the Democrats had that, too, in places like Maine, Michigan, and Texas.

One particular focus has been on Texas.  It has been pointed out that there was an increase of almost 3 million names on the voter registration list over two years, which seems extremely high.  Texas could have done things to protect their registration integrity like some meaningful proof of citizenship reuirements, but they did not.  This failure may have cost that election.  In the last US Senate race in Texas, Democrats got caught trying to register and vote illegal aliens.  The Texas Democrat Party did a mass mailing of voter registration forms to people with Hispanic names that already had the "US citizen" block pre-checkec.  Then just before election day, Democrat US Senate candidate "Beto" O'Rourke sent out an email asking for volunteers to "drive 'undocumented immigrants' to the polls to vote".

Some are looking beyond Texas and asking if registration fraud created a flood of "new" Democrat votes in Texas and other states.  Our loosey goosey registration system in recent years with mail-in registration, registration online, and registration by NGO activists with clipboards, makes this all too possible.  For most of our history, America has very secure voter registration where a prospective voter had to go down to the Board of Elections with proper ID and show an actual election official they were qualified to vote.
