About

John received undergraduate degrees in Physics and Mathematics from Boston College, and a graduate degree in Physics from Syracuse University. He subsequently worked for GE (Aerospace Electronics: Utica, NY), Mohawk Data Sciences (Herkimer, NY), and Monolithic Memories (Cupertino, CA).

After retiring at 34 (due to successful real estate investing) he phased into pursing a variety of community interests. This lead to a 30± year commitment as an environmental advocate. During that time he was a leading individual on three NY state-wide issues (electrical energy, water extraction, and water quality). He received no funding for any of this activity.

He had a lakefront home in the Adirondacks, and has been a participating member of several environmental organizations (e.g. the Adirondack Council, Association for Protection of the Adirondacks, Residents’ Committee to Protect the Adirondacks, Sierra Club, NYS Federation of Lakes).

Two areas of interest and expertise (science and the environment) have merged with his focus on energy matters, especially wind energy. John’s basic position is that we should be taking science-based measures to solve our energy and environmental issues.

In 1984 John and his wife bought a rental property in Emerald Isle, NC which they still own today. In 2009 John sold his primary residence in NY and moved to Morehead City, NC.

In 2011 John was selected to be the Science Advisor and on the Board of Directors of NC-20. In 2011 John was also selected to be a Senior Fellow at American Tradition Institute. (Both of these are unpaid positions.)

In the last 30+ years John has focused on educating citizens about energy and environmental issues. As part of this effort he has put on free energy presen-tations in several states (e.g. NC, VA, WV, MD, PA, MA, ME & NY). See the online version of this presentation at: EnergyPresentation.Info.

Due to NC Senate Bill 3, the wind situation in NC is very problematic. Here is an overview of the numerous NC wind energy issues. In late 2011 John was asked to give a one hour wind energy presentation to NC legislators.

He has been a guest speaker on dozens of radio and TV shows, nationwide, and has spoken to numerous organizations on energy and environmental issues. Here is a sample TV interview, in Buffalo NY (WGRZ, Terry Belke), and a sample radio interview in Denver CO (KOA, Mike Rosen).

He has been a speaker on energy matters at several national symposiums, e.g. in 2012 in Chicago and New York City.

Another aspect of his education efforts is that he has written and published over a hundred articles on energy policy matters.

John also has Sea Level Rise (SLR) expertise, as is evidenced by his influential Critique of the 2010 CRC NC SLR Assessment Report. The CRC subsequently issued a follow-up Addendum, which John responded to by a Commentary. He also gave a SLR talk to NC legislators in late 2011. These all eventually led to the nationally recognized SLR bill: H819. Here is an overview of what went on.

John is a co-author in a science-oriented book in progress, where he has written an extensive chapter on Science Under Siege. This has now become the topic of his latest presentation.

This is rather disturbing since the US Power Grid has been called the most significant engineering accomplishment of our time!

There have been some extremely interesting recent developments regarding writing local wind energy laws — so I decided to write up a brief layperson's summary document about what's going on.

When the Mill Pond project was first publicly announced in October, our number one objective was to see that the two affected communities had laws providing adequate protections to citizens, local businesses, the military, and the environment.

Several people have asked me where things stand regarding the wind energy matter in Carteret County and Newport, and what do we do next.
