Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) recently wrote to Secretary of Defense Ash Carter expressing concern over comments made by some Air Force senior leaders instructing commanders at Fort Bragg's Pope Airfield to "open up the clearing house to undermine the personnel structure" of the 440th Airlift Wing.

Today, the Fayetteville Observer reported that the Air Force is delaying its plans to deactivate Fort Bragg's 440th Airlift Wing for one year as a result of a sustained push by North Carolina's Congressional delegation to stop the deactivation.
