Will Simmons and Washingtonian: Governments can be fixed, or I would NOT endure all I have endured personally to attempt to right the listing ship of Beaufort County government, a public entity of what should be of great concern to every Beaufort County citizen, who cares about our future, especially those of us that have called this land home for many generations.
Accordingly, I disagree with the premise that all representatives are useless; I know too many good ones. At the nexus of your consistent pessimism is that we absolutely do NOT have a majority of good, decent representatives here in Beaufort County serving at all levels of governing; NO not enough ... I will agree with you there ... However, how do we fix this critical element of a proper functioning self governed society, and most precisely here locally? The only answer to the fixing of that problem is solely up the public; the electorate of the self-governed; picking better, more capable politician one at a time ... And, it is up to the People to choose that most worthy politician; one by one; each and every one. Paying close attention by the public is part of that noble process, and should be taken seriously.

Governments cannot be fixed. Change will always come to pass. Season makes way to season, and all water runs downhill.
God did make man upright but man sought out many devices. We hear but don’t listen, we see but are blind, we read but we cannot comprehend. Let us examine ourselves

I am not alone in my thoughts about govt:
Rep. Chip Roy dropped a truth bomb: “At some point people will look at this body and say, maybe we should get rid of all 435 members of the House & all 100 members of the Senate and start over because Congress is literally failing the American people.”

My Kingdom, My Kingdom for one honest politician/bureaucrat, or even an honest attorney.
Socialism is obviously not the change we need, but "the system" is broken...thoroughly. Show me any part of the local and even state Govt that wants to "serve" WeThePeople! Everyone of them is serving themselves, and anyone who steps up to defend these self serving people mostly likely has money in the game. There is NO reason to praise any politician. Theyare NOT heroes AND they are not any smarter than the ppl here. And guess what...NOTHING said on this platform is going to reform govt. The self-serving nature is too entrenched. WE are NOT SAFE. The city is not safe! BBob if u have a plan, explain it in detail. Talk is cheap.

Not an excuse, just common sense. If the legislature can do anything about smart meters, the local legislator to contact is conservative State Senator Bob Brinson. He is, like Kidwell, a full spectrum conservative and a real Republican, but is not a lame duck like Kidwell has been since the primary. Smart meters are a horrible idea all the way around, and trying to talk sense into the city council will be tough.
The license plate reading Flock surveillance cameras required state legislation to get off the ground, and Kidwell led the successful fight for years to block that.

Washingtonian, I am not aware of the "smart meter" issue ever coming before the General Assembly or how Washington's nutty drive to install them would come before that body. As far as influencing the city council, Kidwell is now a lame duck where his influence is gone. As to Armstrong, his campaign showed he was pretty clueless on issues outside farming, and that situation is unlikely to improve. It is not credible to think he would be one of the handful of "read every bill" legislators. Hundreds of thousands of dollars of special interest money have bought our district for the "RoundUP RINO".

Good points. Those Flock surveillance cameras are a Stalinist assault on our privacy. Making them permanent was placed in the Budget bill by the Senate, meaning the only way to stop it was voting down the entire budget, something nobody in the legislature had any stomach for. Kidwell and the Freedom Caucus was able to block the Flocks for years until RINOs used an excused medical absence by Kidwell to slip it into a bill at the last minute. Apparently nobody else in the Freedom Caucus was in the "read every bill" including the last minute changes mode like Kidwell was.
Genuine conservatives are waking up to the totalitarian threat of Flock cameras and the computer network that coordinates them. Texas Governor Greg Abbott just issued an executive order blocking use of state funds for them in his state. We need a lot more vigilant conservatives like Abbott and Kidwell.
