Jean graduated from Peace College and Meredith College and taught school briefly after her marriage. She moved to Rocky Mount as a bride in 1950 and made it her home, giving her time generously to her friends and community. She loved to entertain and hosted hundreds of parties in her homes in Rocky Mount and Bath, North Carolina.

She is survived by her three brothers; Scott Ferebee of Charlotte, NC, James Ferebee and wife Ann of Shawboro, NC, and John Ferebee and wife Patsy of Rocky Mount.

Her greatest joy in life was her family. She is survived by her five children: Christie Bishop Barbee and husband Will, Jack Bishop and wife Grace, Steve Bishop and wife Gail, Carolyn Bishop McCosh and husband Alan, Maude Bishop and Walt Pate. She had twelve grandchildren; Carrie Barbee, Sarah Clarke Barbee, John Bishop and wife Kelly, Scott Bishop and wife Blair, Todd Bishop and wife Natalie, David Alan Bishop, Ferebee Bishop Taube and husband Brook, Caroline Bishop Black and husband James (Buster), Stephen Bishop, Alan McCosh and wife Cameron, Ben McCosh and wife Dana, Kenneth Moorefield and wife Courtney. She had ten great-grandchildren; Bailey Bishop, Emma Joy Bishop, Josiah Bishop, Silas Bishop, Titus Bishop, Ford Taube, Bishop Taube, Clarke Taube, James Black, Holly Grace Moorefield.

Jean's children extend heartfelt thanks to her loving caregivers and especially to Cindy Corbett who took care of every detail.

The family will receive friends at the home of John and Patsy Ferebee, 412 Wildwood Avenue, Rocky Mount on Wednesday, January 22 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 23 at 11:00 a.m. at Lakeside Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Lakeside Baptist Church in Rocky Mount and to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Bath, North Carolina.

Arrangements entrusted to Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 N. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount NC 27804. You may share memories and condolences with the family by visiting www.wheelerwoodlief.com.
