News Release:

Fletcher, NC     Governor Pat McCrory and Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker joined U.S. Congressman Mark Meadows, North Carolina Senators Apodaca and McGrady, and other leaders in helping Continental AG celebrate the opening of a $35 million expansion at its Henderson County production plant that will result in 40 new jobs over the next five years.

"North Carolina has proven time and time again that it can attract and retain global companies like Continental AG," said Governor McCrory. "We're grateful for its investment, quality products and trust in our state's workforce and economy."

Salaries will vary by job function, but the average annual wage for the new jobs will be $49,450, plus benefits. The Henderson County average annual wage is $34,202.

Continental is based in Germany. The Continental plant in Henderson County employs approximately 626 people and manufactures vehicle brakes and chassis and brake calipers.

"We welcome Continental's expansion in Fletcher and see it as another sign of North Carolina's improving economy," said Secretary Decker. "Continental's strengthened commitment to our state is creating needed jobs in western North Carolina. We congratulate them and wish them continued success in helping us grow North Carolina's economy."

The project was made possible in part by a performance-based grant from the One North Carolina Fund of up to $40,000. The One NC Fund provides financial assistance, through local governments, to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state. Companies receive no money up front and must meet job creation and investment performance standards to qualify for grant funds. These grants also require and are contingent upon local matches.

The company also operates a plant in Burke which manufactures electronic brake systems and employs approximately 500 people.
