Jones Continues Opposition to Foreign Aid for Ukraine

WASHINGTON, D.C.     Yesterday, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) voted against two bills that would obligate hundreds of millions of U.S. taxpayer dollars to a foreign aid package for Ukraine. The first measure, H.R. 4152, would authorize $150 million in aid, with $100 million being spent on military and security assistance and $50 million being spent on "democracy and civil society" efforts. Furthermore, H.R. 4152 would guarantee $1 billion in loans to Ukraine, which could incur an upfront cost of $200 million. The second measure, S. 2183, would provide $10 million for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and Voice of America to increase broadcasts into Ukraine and other nearby regions.

"At a time when the national debt has reached over $17 trillion, the United States cannot afford to continue to funnel millions of dollars overseas in the form of foreign aid – especially when that aid is comprised of money we ourselves have borrowed from foreign governments like Russia and China," said Congressman Jones. "For the sake of the future generations of Americans that will be paying the massive debt we have incurred, we must put a stop to this reckless cycle of borrowing and spending money we do not have."

Jones Blasts Obama on Open Borders Policy

WASHINGTON, D.C.     Today, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) issued the following statement in response to a new Department of Homeland Security (DHS) document revealing that 68,000 illegal immigrants with criminal convictions were released instead of deported in 2013, with most of the releases coming as a result of the Obama administration's "prosecutorial discretion" policies. Furthermore, the report stated that 870,000 illegal immigrants who have been ordered removed remain unlawfully in the United States.

"By refusing to enforce our country's immigration laws, the Obama administration is compromising the safety of law-abiding American citizens," said Congressman Jones. "Furthermore, allowing illegal immigrants to remain and work in the United States costs American jobs and decreases American wages. Complacency in enforcement only rewards the individuals who have cheated the system and encourages others to do the same. The president of our country should be committed to defending the public safety and economic security of the American people – and that means enforcing our immigration laws."
