Born: May 13, 1934, Died: June 23, 2014

Doris Hodges Stocks, age 80, a resident of Rosedale, Washington, NC, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014 at her home.

There will be a celebration of her life at 10:00 am, Monday, June 30, in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service, officiated by Pastor Jay Martin. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Jonathan Eubanks, Bradford Luchenbill, Stuart Eubanks, Hatteras Brooks, Gene Paul Edwards and Elwood Ingalls will serve as pallbearers.

Doris was born May 13, 1934 in Pitt County, daughter of the late Clarence and Ruby Boyd Hodges. She married her childhood boyfriend, William Gardner Stocks, Sr. on November 1, 1952, who preceded her in death on November 21, 2002. She was a devoted and loving wife of fifty years. She retired from National Spinning Co. with more than 43 years of service. Doris was a strong woman who survived and conquered many of life's hardships. Her work ethic provided the means to raise five children during tough times. She taught her children the importance of saving for the future. This lesson enabled Doris, to have more than enough savings, to pay for her care and comfort during her sickness these past two years.

Doris loved the Lord and this was very evident in the way she lived her life. She was a long time member of First Free Will Baptist Church, Washington, NC. She served her church over the years as a Secretary, Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Officer and a member of the Women's Auxiliary. She served God in her personal life by reaching out to others. She routinely visited and gifted flowers to shut-ins and nursing home patients. She was an example of how to believe in God through all circumstances. He was her Rock, her Savior, and her Friend.

She is survived by her four daughters, Peggy Waters of Durham, Sue Simmons (Eric) of Carrboro, Denise Eubanks (Marvin) of Washington and Billie Carol Brooks (Bo) of Washington; her son, Billy Stocks (Paige) of Grimesland; her five sisters, Joyce Warren, Janice Mosley, Faye Stainback, Jean Avery and Jane Avery; her brothers, Jesse Hodges, Jimmy Hodges, and Bobby Hodges; her nine grandchildren, Stacy Erickson (Andrew), Jonathan Eubanks (Paula), Charlotte Reedy (Ted), Bradford Luchenbill, , Stuart Eubanks, Amy Lilly (Alex), Hatteras Brooks, Emeline Stocks and Will Stocks; and three great grandchildren, Levi Eubanks, Morgan Stringer and Blake Erickson.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death two brothers, James Hodges and Grady Hodges; her son-in-law, Marvin Waters; and her great grandchild, Rylen Elizabeth Eubanks.

The family will receive friends Sunday, June 29, from 5: 00 to 7:00 pm, at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Hwy 264 E., Washington, NC 27889 and other times at the home of her daughter, Denise Eubanks, 409 Northwood Rd., Smallwood, Washington, NC.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the charity selected by Doris, Lights of Love, Vidant Beaufort Hospital, 628 E. 12th St., Washington, NC 27889 or to the charity of one's choice.
