Marvin Brown Alligood [UPDATED] | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Marvin Brown Alligood, 86, of 105 South Eden Drive went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, surrounded by his family at his home.

    Graveside services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Oakdale Cemetery and will be conducted by Tony Krantz and Dr. Robert Cayton. Mr. Alligood's nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.

    He was a giving and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, Christian, and friend. He was married to the former Maxine Wright for 53 years and she preceded him in death in 2006.

    He is survived by one daughter, Patsy Alligood Leary and her husband William, one son, Marvin Alligood, Jr., three grandchildren, William Ryan Woolard and his wife Terry, Elizabeth Courtney Woolard, and Heather Woolard Younts and her husband Chase, six great-grandchildren, Kennedy Brooklyn Arnold, Ryan Caden Woolard, Korbyn Montgomery Arnold, Karrigan Mackynze Arnold, Annisten Michelle Woolard and Jacob Channing Younts. He is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews and his faithful friend and pet, Heidi.

    Marvin was born in the Douglas Cross Roads area on March 22, 1928, and was the son of the late William Ackwith and Ida Asby Alligood. In 1952, he joined the US Army and served during the Korean War as a Sergeant stationed in Germany. Upon returning home, he began working for the Federal Government at the Naval Air Rework Facility in Cherry Point as a Quality Assurance Specialist. He retired in 1989 and enjoyed many good years in retirement doing the things he loved most. Fishing, camping, gardening, traveling with family, and raising livestock on his farm were among his favorite pastimes.

    He was a lifelong member of Beaver Dam Church of Christ, and an active member of the Beaufort County Grange.

    He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Alligood, one sister, Annie Mae Godley Lewis, and five brothers, John, Harley, Robert, Hardy and Callas Alligood.

    The family extends a very special thank you to Lydia Williams and Aaron Adams for their unconditional friendship to our Dad, Mom, and family. A special thanks also to all the neighbors and friends who have been so wonderful to our Dad during his illness.

    Additionally, our family would like to share our deepest and sincerest appreciation to the staff of Asera Care Hospice of Winterville for their loving and dedicated staff.

    The family will receive friends from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, July 25, 2014 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.

    Flowers are appreciated, but memorial donations may be made in memory of Marvin Alligood to Beaver Dam Church of Christ, 9044 NC Hwy 32 N, Washington, NC 27889.
