Here is a story of the big Mars Hill Church out in California. Like Vidant, it is a 501(c)3 Tax-exempt / Non-profit institution. The Pastor, Mark Driscoll is a super star much like the CEO's in the Hospital world. They both take delight in success proven by money and large numbers of people "served."

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/religion/mark-driscoll-to-step-down-while-mars-hill-reviews-charges/2014/08/24/c35e048a-2bd4-11e4-be9e-60cc44c01e7f_story.html

The problem comes when the leader is so highly paid, it goes to his head. Instead of a "servant" he becomes a "king of the castle." Both types of leaders, whether in a big church or big corporate healthcare system somehow get the idea they can do as they please because of money and looks.

They are both a far cry from John and Charles Wesley riding on horseback and taking abuse. The Wesleys bucked the religious system of England and were not properly obedient to the Church of England and Henry VIII.

In hospital care, Dorothea Dix, was the first advocate for public mental health and hospital care --- paid by the state of NC. The facility named for her is now up for sale as expensive real estate and government offices in Raleigh. Our state has decided to flush out mentally impaired citizens to half-way houses. It is a matter of time before one of these patients does himself or others harm following the "voices in his head."

    Money / Compassion

fancy buildings / proper pay to the lower workers who actually touch the patients

Tax-Exempt / Non-Profit with millions in the bank and millions paid their CEO who makes all seem smooth and rosy / power vs. service.

We think Belhaven Is small and far away. The distance between it and Raleigh is major. The Mayor traversed a great gulf between Belhaven and DC and got much attention.

Will it count for anything with proper healthcare in the poor and remote areas of America???

Serious questions for me. I hope they become such for you as well.
