    On September 9, 2014, three homes on Old Blounts Creek Road in Chocowinity, NC were broken into. Once inside two of the homes, the thieves took several handguns and a flat screen television. A witness saw two black male suspects loading the stolen items into a gold colored Pontiac van before they fled the scene. The Sheriff's Office began an investigation and conducted interviews. On September 19th, the Greenville Police Department recovered one of the stolen handguns during a crime scene search in Greenville.

    As a result, Investigator Jeremy Landeck applied and obtained warrants charging Brandon Ozenza Atkinson, age 24 of East Brook Drive in Greenville with two counts of Safe Cracking, three counts of Felony Breaking and Entering, two counts of Larceny After Breaking and Entering, and two counts of Larceny of a Firearm. Atkinson was arrested on September 24th by Pitt County Probation and Parole. He was transported to the Pitt County Detention Center where he was served with the warrants and held on a $75,000.00 secured bond.

    On September 25th, Investigator Landeck applied for and obtained warrants charging T'Shawn Lavious Perkins, age 23 of Ward Street in Greenville with two counts of Safe Cracking, three counts of Felony Breaking and Entering, two counts of Larceny After Breaking and Entering, and two counts of Larceny of a Firearm. Perkins was arrested by the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division on November 6th. He was taken before Magistrate Donald Sadler and held on a $60,000 secured bond.

    On November 7th, Investigator Landeck applied for and obtained warrants charging Kareem Ali Smallwood, age 34 of Shawnee Place in Greenville NC with two counts of Safe Cracking, three counts of Felony Breaking and Entering, two counts of Larceny After Breaking and Entering, two counts of Larceny of a Firearm, and Possession of Firearm by Felon. Smallwood was arrested by the Greenville Police Department on November 11th and taken before a Pitt County Magistrate where he was held on a $250,000.00 secured bond.

On Monday, April 13, 2026, the Beaufort County Grand Jury returned a True Bill of Indictment against 24-year-old Brady O’Neil Daniels of Wallace, NC, charging him with the murder of Billy Joe Bell in 2023.
On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call in a wooded area near Pamlico Plantation in Washington NC.
In the past month, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Patrol and K9 Division have arrested 10 people in the county on felony drug charges.
On December 12, 2025, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested 27-year-old Nikkopenia Terra Echevarria of Washington, NC on multiple felony drug charges.
Beaufort County District Attorney Thomas D. Anglim disclosed that Ryan Austin Stalls was convicted of two counts attempted murder and one count of attempted first degree ex offense and first-degree kidnapping following a guilty plea in Beaufort County on December 9, 2025.
On December 22, 2025, Deputies from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the Aurora/Richlands area for a report of a foul odor coming from inside a rental property where a tenant had previously moved out.
On December 5, 2025, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested 39-year-old, Arnold Gerard Whitney of Belhaven, NC on multiple drug and weapon charges.
On Tuesday December 9th, 2025, 33-year-old Ryan Austin Stalls pled guilty in Beaufort County Superior Court to the following charges:

On January 27, 2025 Washington Police Department officers and Washington Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the area of Bonner Street and E. Martin Luther King Jr. Street in reference to a report of a motor vehicle crash.
During the past month, members from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit, Patrol Division and K9 Unit have charged seven people in the county on felony drug charges.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office needs your help locating a wanted person. On October 27, 2025, 40-year-old Givon Montrell Hodges of Washington, NC left Superior Court in Beaufort County and failed to return.
On April 25, 2024, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jaleza Aneice Alexander on multiple drug charges.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received reports of multiple vehicle break-ins between December 6 th and December 9 th in the areas of Turkey Trot Rd., South Asbury Church Rd. and Magnolia School Rd. in Washington.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office has received several calls from concerned parents regarding a past incident that occurred at Bath Elementary School. I would like to assure the public that there is no current threat of school violence.

On Sunday, September 21, 2025 at approximately 1900 hours, Washington Police Department units were dispatched to the 600 block of West 9th Street in reference to a possible shooting in progress.
On December 16 th the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Response Team along with officers from the Washington Police Department joined forces to arrest a subject wanted in Beaufort and Pitt County for ten outstanding warrants that included multiple felony charges.
