    Mr. Edward David Bailey, age 69, a resident of Washington, NC died Friday, December 19, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center.

    A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and will be officiated by The Reverend Kevin Johnson. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Jimmy Cox, Dempsy Ange Jr, Tommy Daughtridge, Fred Williamson, Larry Everett and Ottis Cox will serve as pallbearers.

    The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 1:45 pm prior to the funeral at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.

    Mr. Bailey was born in Bayshore, NY on July 18, 1945 son of the late Irving Goodrich Bailey and the late Irene Estelle Everett Bailey. He was a 1963 graduate of Westhampton Beach High School and attended Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY. Mr. Bailey joined the U.S. Army in 1965 and became a member of the first U.S. Army Band as a clarinetist and eventually became its band library director and assistant to the band director. He returned to civilian life in 1968 and attended Southampton College of Long Island University from 1973 to 1977 where he earned his B.A. Degree. He was elected president of the Student Government Association while at LIU. In 1978 he entered Rollins College in Winter Park, FL and earned a Masters Degree in Education in 1981. From April 1984 until September 2002 he was co-manager, along with his brother Brian, of Bailey's Motel in Westhampton Beach, NY. In 2004 Edward and his father relocated to the Smallwood community of Washington where he dearly loved living. He also was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church of Washington.

    Survivors include a brother: Brian Everett Bailey of West Greenwich Village, of New York City; an aunt: Dorothy Simpson of Houston, TX and by many cousins. Mr. Bailey was predeceased along with his parents by his maternal grandparents: David Everett and Martha Respass Everett and his paternal grandparents: Edward Charles Bailey and Edith Seeley Goodrich Bailey.

    The family would like to express their thanks to Golden Way Home Care for the compassionate care that was given to Mr. Bailey.
