    Raleigh, N.C. - Governor Pat McCrory has nominated Dr. Linda Morrison Combs of Winston-Salem as North Carolina State Controller. The governor first appointed Dr. Combs to the position in May 2014. The nomination is subject to confirmation by the General Assembly.

    "Dr. Combs has done an exceptional job as steward of North Carolina taxpayer dollars," Governor McCrory said. "Our fiscal health is strong and stable in large part to her leadership and oversight, and I look forward to the continuation of her great work."

    Combs was Controller for the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) from 2005-2007. As Controller for OMB, Combs regularly briefed President George W. Bush on the financial management of federal departments. She also frequently testified before numerous Congressional oversight committees.

    Under her leadership, the OMB Controller's office reduced improper payments by $9 billion and disposed of $4.5 billion of unneeded real property.

    Combs is originally from Caldwell County. She holds a doctor's degree from Virginia Tech University, a master's from Appalachian State University and is a graduate of Harvard University's Program for Senior Managers.
