    Mr. Fred Maxline "Max" Rayburn, Jr., age 75, a resident of 106 Cedar Circle, Washington, died Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

    Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, March 15, 2015 at the First Baptist Church, Washington, conducted by Dr. Jimmy Moore. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington.

    The following will serve as pallbearers: Russell Davenport, Keith Alligood, Tony Cannon, Kevin Westbrook, Taylor Whichard, Greg Rowe and Todd Cutler.

    Steve Wiley, Teeny Mason, Richard Morgan and Ray David Moore will serve as honorary pallbearers.

    Mr. Rayburn was born in Pitt County on May 8, 1939. He was the son of the late Fred Maxline Rayburn, Sr. and Margaret Covington Rayburn. Mr. Rayburn was a retired salesman with Heilig-Myers Furniture. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and had served on the Property Committee of the church. In his spare time, Mr. Rayburn enjoyed doing yard work with his son and making things such the first indoor shower before they became popular. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.

    On May 5, 1961, Mr. Rayburn married the former Shirley Bright, who survives.

    Surviving with his wife are his daughter, Tonya Rayburn Williams and husband, Michael Ray Williams of Ayden; his son, Gregory Scott Rayburn and wife, Anita Edwards Rayburn of Washington; two grandson, Gavin Scott Rayburn and Hunter Lane Williams; and sister, Betty Lou Rayburn Baker and husband, Leland "Buddy" Baker of Chocowinity.

    In addition to his parents, Mr. Rayburn was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Rayburn McCann and a brother, Billy Rayburn.

    The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the First Baptist Church, 113 N. Harvey Street, Washington, N.C. and other times at the home, 106 Cedar Circle, Washington.

    Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 113 N. Harvey Street, Washington, N.C. 27889.
