On Friday, July 8, 2011, Patricia Spivey Davis passed away peacefully at Duke University Hospital surrounded by friends and family after her courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Pat was born on Jan. 17, 1952, and grew up in Washington, N.C. In August of 1973, she married Jim before settling in Emerald Isle in 1981. From a very young age, she knew she had a passion for art and design. Pat went on to obtain a degree in interior design, a profession she enjoyed for more than 20 years. She enjoyed the beach, reading, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. Of the things that mattered most to Pat were caring for others and her grandson Gavin.

Pat’s generosity and kind heart were an inspiration to many. She lived her life to the fullest, with integrity and an indescribable sense of happiness. Pat will always be remembered for her infectious laugh, enthusiastic personality, and her giving nature. Her innate ability to make others happy will truly be missed.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Davis, one daughter, Jamie Davis-Williams and husband, Derrick, all of Swansboro; her father, Col. (Ret.) David W. Spivey and wife, Mildred, of Washington; her mother-in-law, Margaret R. Davis, of Bath; one brother, David Spivey and wife, Betty, of Concord; one grandchild, Gavin; and sisters-in-law Pegi Davis of Swansboro, Bebe Major and husband, William, and one niece Jamie Major all of Bath. She is preceded in death by her mother, Frances Bost Spivey.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2011, at the Dave Spivey residence, 607 Bank St. in Washington, N.C., and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, 2011, at the Davis residence, 203 Gertrude Hurst Court in Swansboro, N.C. A celebration of her life will be held at the Swansboro Rotary Civic Center at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2011.

For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Swansboro Rotary Scholarship Fund or to Duke Hospital Children’s Clinic care of Swansboro Rotary Club.
