Murder in Charleston
It has been in our faces as the replacement story for the prisoner escape near the Canadian Border of New York State. A young man entered a famous black church and killed 9 people in cold blood. He escaped to Shelby, NC, or thereabouts, and is now being extradited back to historic Charleston, SC, where this awful event took place.
Reports from yesterday said he told people he was "gonna git me sum N-WORDs." The picture shown thus far is that of a Moe-haircut (as in 3 Stooges) young man with a weird look to his eyes and face. It is the same look as on the face of that guy who cut people down in the Colorado Theater. The only defense is the mental insanity one. SC still has a restored electric chair / lethal injection penalty for its worst Capital Crimes. Legally he is "innocent until proven guilty," but the case is being exposed quickly to us in fact and witness.
His Defense Lawyer would never select me for the Jury on this one. I was almost a victim of such a man without a conscience during my first year living in NC. I worked at Dorothea Dix on the second shift as a nurse's aide for the Alcoholic Ward. I was in my first year at Southeastern Seminary. I went to classes 8:00-2:00, put on my keys and joined 3 other students in white uniform to ride to Raleigh from Wake Forest. I would return about midnight to my roommate's snoring. It was work-study-eat-sleep for me. My only weekend off each month was a trip to Atlanta for orthodontic adjustments of a most serious deformed mouth as one side of my jaw grew faster than the other as I hit my last growth spurt. I could have been mad at God for "making" me that deformed way, but I knew he does not purposely deform people made in his image.
Lest someone say, "He's just sick and needs our help / He's the victim of his awful whatever / He couldn't help himself," let me tell you how it feels to be 2" from the end of a pair of barber scissors with a patient saying "Give me your keys. I want out of here!"
Until you have looked into 2 black holes of a shark's eyes, you have no idea. When those eyes belong to thinking and scheming human it is far worse. A shark eats without a conscience and can be eaten in the same way. A human has the ability to control killing another human he has no intention of eating. We call that self-control mechanism a Conscience. That man who had my arm and a stiletto-like pair of scissors 2" from my liver HAD NO CONSCIENCE.
If I had had a .357 magnum pistol handy --- in the spirit of Christian love --- I would have stuck it 2" from his head and pulled the trigger without a thought. It was me or him---better him than me. It was a battlefield-type decision you can't hesitate to make. That was at our FORMER state mental hospital. The 9 in Charleston were killed at their Wednesday Night Prayer meeting by a man they did not know and a color that would not come to the prayer time if invited with outstretched Black Hand. Those were loving and caring people who were of color and they qualified to fill his lust for blood and chaos. One of them was even a State Representative whose desk in Columbia was draped in black with a simple flower on it.
Now---WHAT ARE THE LEGISLATORS OF SC GOING TO DO WITH THEIR CLOSING OF THEIR MENTAL HOSPITAL just as NC has done with its Conservative zeal??? I had the duty while at Loris, SC, FBC to officiate at the funeral of the Speaker of the House. From Governor Riley to Strom Thurmond, the entire Legislative Body and Judges were listening to my words of comfort and faith that day. The entire Sanctuary was full with a remote area for the overflow. There were 3 pew sections separated by aisles. That middle one was all SC Legislature.
What would I say if it were my duty in a few days to officiate this funeral?
I believe in God's Providence. Only by his grace did I get out of a life-and-death situation without bleeding to death from a punctured liver with 4 locked doors between me and any help. It was a relief to be locked in a broom closet with my own keys so that I could hear his departing footsteps down the fire escape.
THESE 9 DEAD CHRISTIANS IN A PRAYER MEETING COULD HEAR NO FOOTSTEPS
The person whose car was stolen on the Dix Hill Campus as she was starting to get in was lucky.
SHE COULD HEAR THOSE TIRES SQUALL AS A MAD MAN DROVE AWAY
The drivers of Raleigh were lucky as the Wake County deputies engaged in a high speed chase of a man crazed enough to have gotten out and then stupid enough to run a stop sign in front of a patrol car.
ALL THE INNOCENT CITIZENS AND POLICE WERE LUCKY NO GUNFIRE WAS NEEDED THAT DAY --- THEY COULD ALL HEAR, SEE, AND FEEL THAT DAY
He was back between two big Deputies and in cuffs within 2 hours.
TODAY THERE ARE 9 INNOCENT PEOPLE OF FAITH WHO WERE OF COLOR WHO CAN DO NOTHING BUT REJOICE THAT GOD RECEIVED THEM INTO HIS PRESENCE AND HEALING CARE. THIS GOOD LEGISLATOR IS NOW WITH GOD
My only regret was the Head Aide, instead of me, went down with smile on face to let that shark hand back my keys still in his pocket. The justice would have made my day. Just being alive was enough for me that night, my friends!
Conservatives of SC had the grand idea of saving tax money by closing their hospital in Columbia. Now they must stand at the funeral of an innocent man of their body who is dead. Dead by a crazed and hate-filled individual in the hate-filled N. Charleston ghetto of "if you black don't be back." I served 4 churches in SC.
One had a sign in the vestibule table drawer: "We will be happy to show you to a church of your color." That was 1970's and not that far from a place where the same white racist hate turned over and burned a school bus when integration was ordered from Federal Judges of their public schools.
That is just as much crazy as a man with a gun. HATE makes normal humans as crazy as that man who was a hidden drug addict on an alcoholic commitment. HATE blew President John Kennedy's head off. HATE killed Jesus when he confronted the Conservative Pharisees of his day over their abuse and money-getting ways in their big place of worship.
That same Jesus confronted a boy of this same age "Possessed of a Demon." He spoke to that Demon and made a deal. It would only leave if it could go to a herd of pigs which ran over a cliff to their death. The Pharisees were more concerned about the value of those pigs than a possessed boy. They criticized Jesus for the "wasted money." They were plotting to kill the Son of God over money.
HATE KILLS --- unless we either house it or end it with lethal means.
The best way to end demon-possession is to bow in prayer before Almighty God and beg his love and mercy to save your soul from hell. Hell does not always wait until the afterlife. This nation and those folks in SC are living in it now.
HELL AND HATE are the SAME --- in my view. I believe it is the same in God's view of His Creation.
Pray with me . . . Almighty God, Creator and sustainer of life, set us free today from any demons which possess us. Remove from our lives the demon of hate and death. Cleanse our tongues of hate-filled words. Clear our minds of awful thoughts that enslave us, God. Cleanse our hearts of sin and separation from one another.
In place of hate, give us love. In the place of judging one another, let us forgive and live together. Give us a Peace that passes understanding this day, oh God of Justice and Mercy.
Help us to find your Son through faith. Help us live as he lived sewing love and joy to the hearts of temperamental mankind. Restore us to your perfect garden of creation where there was food, rest, love between men and women. Forgive us for eating of the forbidden fruit of Knowledge of Good and Evil.
Only in YOU, our Father and Creator, can we find your promised rest from the toils of this earth we brought upon ourselves. Receive unto your Eternal place of peace and joy the souls of those departed on Tuesday, July 17, at the hands of the demon of hate.
Give to us that same hope of Eternal Life by your Grace alone --- available through the spilled blood of our Savior, Jesus, the Christ. Teach us to love and live together through the rest of our days upon this earth.
By your Son's example help us to, indeed, make this nation the land of the free and home of the brave.
