Opening The Door to Opportunity: Kenna's Story | Eastern North Carolina Now

    RALEIGH - Today, Parents for Educational Freedom in North Carolina (PEFNC) highlights the story of another family from your region who applied for the Opportunity Scholarship Program and is anxiously awaiting a decision about the Program from the N.C. Supreme Court.

    Kenna, a grandmother from Supply, is hoping the Supreme Court will soon announce its decision to uphold the Opportunity Scholarship Program. Previously, Kenna's funny, kind, loving and outgoing 8 1/2 year old grandson was simply surviving in the public school; now he's thriving in his private school.

    She explains that without the Opportunity Scholarship, she couldn't afford to send her grandson to a private school. She understands that many of North Carolina's public schools are great and that private school isn't right for every child; however it's right for her grandson. She beams when she says, "For parents who are very invested in their children's education, they want options. I know that no matter who you are, where you're from and what your background is, you can make something of yourself!"
