News Release:

Raleigh, N.C.     After the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources sent a letter to Attorney General Roy Cooper, The North Carolina Republican Party urged Cooper to put politics aside and do his job by defending the state against new overreaching federal EPA rules seeking more control over North Carolina's water.

New EPA rules redefining "Waters of the United States" would extend the federal government's regulatory jurisdiction to small waterways, ditches and ponds on North Carolina farms and developments, needlessly burdening our state's farmers and land owners and may even prevent farmers from farming existing farmland.

"North Carolina knows how to run our state better than the Obama Administration's EPA and the federal government," said Todd Poole, executive director of the North Carolina Republican Party. "These new regulations have nothing to do with improving our state's water quality and everything to do with expanding the federal government's authority in our lives. Especially after the EPA's disastrous handling of the Colorado mine spill, we hope Roy Cooper decides to stand up for North Carolina rather than cede control of our state's water supply to the EPA."

Sorry---BUT the AG is a country boy from Nash County whose daddy had a farm. He CARES about our waterways and the threat of Fracking inland and Offshore Drilling between the Outer Banks and Gulf Stream --- between the 2 most valuable waterways on our East Coast of the US. If we had a responsible bunch of legislators and Governor, this would not be a federal issue . . .
