    On July 25, 2015, the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office received numerous reports of a Breaking & Entering and Larceny that occurred at multiple residences in Bath, and Harvey Road in Washington. The victims reported the stolen items as an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV), Loading Ramps, Chainsaw, Televisions, Fishing Rods and Reels, Blu Ray Player, assorted DVDs, camera, camcorder, machete, binoculars, tools, dive regulators, a gas can, an extension ladder, a leaf blower, and a grey in color kayak. Investigator Landeck conducted interviews and collected evidence. During the investigation, numerous items reported stolen were recovered from Beaufort and Pitt Counties. Two firearms, one which was stolen out of Greenville NC, were also recovered during the investigation.

    As a result, Investigator Jeremy Landeck applied for and obtained warrants charging Curtis Edward Wells, age 31, of Washington, NC with two counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

    On July 28, 2015, Wells was located in Missouri and apprehended by the Bates County Sheriff's Office where he was held with no bond until he could be extradited back to Beaufort County. The stolen ATV was also located in Bates County.

    On August 11, 2015, Wells was returned to Beaufort County and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $40,000 secured bond set by Magistrate Donald Sadler.

    On August 12, 2015, Wells was charged with additional charges of four counts of Breaking and Entering, four counts Larceny After Breaking and Entering, three counts of Felony Larceny, One count of Breaking and Entering of MV, one count of Safe Cracking and one count of Attempting to Obtaining Property by False Pretense. Wells was served with these charges and received an additional secure bond of $60,000.00 set by Magistrate Eric Holmes.

This week, the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association hosted sheriffs, sheriffs’ personnel and their families for their Annual Business Conference.
On July 17th, 2026, members of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested 38-year-old Tyshawn Laron Mann of Englehard NC for drug trafficking and other drug related offenses.
On July 6, 2026, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office along with members of the NC SBI Criminal Apprehension Team located and apprehended 39-year-old Leslie Michael Kitchengs in the Long Acre Area.
On April 17, 2026 Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff Office received information that 37-year-old Clinton Alexander Daniel of Chocowinity NC had strangled his 4-year-old son.
On Monday, April 13, 2026, the Beaufort County Grand Jury returned a True Bill of Indictment against 24-year-old Brady O’Neil Daniels of Wallace, NC, charging him with the murder of Billy Joe Bell in 2023.
On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call in a wooded area near Pamlico Plantation in Washington NC.
In the past month, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Patrol and K9 Division have arrested 10 people in the county on felony drug charges.
On December 12, 2025, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested 27-year-old Nikkopenia Terra Echevarria of Washington, NC on multiple felony drug charges.
Beaufort County District Attorney Thomas D. Anglim disclosed that Ryan Austin Stalls was convicted of two counts attempted murder and one count of attempted first degree ex offense and first-degree kidnapping following a guilty plea in Beaufort County on December 9, 2025.

On December 22, 2025, Deputies from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the Aurora/Richlands area for a report of a foul odor coming from inside a rental property where a tenant had previously moved out.
On December 5, 2025, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested 39-year-old, Arnold Gerard Whitney of Belhaven, NC on multiple drug and weapon charges.
On Tuesday December 9th, 2025, 33-year-old Ryan Austin Stalls pled guilty in Beaufort County Superior Court to the following charges:
Today I officially filed for re-election, seeking to continue my service to the citizens of Beaufort County.
On January 27, 2025 Washington Police Department officers and Washington Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the area of Bonner Street and E. Martin Luther King Jr. Street in reference to a report of a motor vehicle crash.
During the past month, members from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit, Patrol Division and K9 Unit have charged seven people in the county on felony drug charges.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office needs your help locating a wanted person. On October 27, 2025, 40-year-old Givon Montrell Hodges of Washington, NC left Superior Court in Beaufort County and failed to return.
On April 25, 2024, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jaleza Aneice Alexander on multiple drug charges.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received reports of multiple vehicle break-ins between December 6 th and December 9 th in the areas of Turkey Trot Rd., South Asbury Church Rd. and Magnolia School Rd. in Washington.
