    Evelyn Louise Perry passed away on Thursday September 10, 2015.

    Evelyn was born on December 15, 1925 to Lawson and Nora Perry, in Smithfield, NC, and she was raised in Graham, N.C. and graduated from Graham High School. She then moved to Raleigh with her family, she is preceded in death by her parents; Lawson and Nora Perry and two brothers Lawson Perry JR (Gene) and Charles R. Perry.

    Dean and Professor, School of Nursing, East Carolina University, Evelyn received her diploma from Rex Hospital, Raleigh, North Carolina (following in the footsteps of her mother) and holds a B.S.P.H.N. M.S.N. and Post Masters educational preparation from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her previous professional experiences include Nursing Education Consultant, N.C. Board of Nursing; Instructor, School of Nursing, Watts Hospital; Staff Nurse, United States Army (serving in South Korea during the Korean Conflict), Obstetrical Assistant, and other positions prior to coming to East Carolina University in 1962-1969 before being named Dean, and has continued to be an active member of many professional organizations, as well as having received many honors and awards as an educator and for her community service.

    In Evelyn's many years of dedication and service to East Carolina University School of Nursing and to the entire profession of nursing, Evelyn Perry has had a profound effect on the lives of countless individuals. In her role as Professor and Dean, she has given encouragement, guidance, and a solid foundation of knowledge to student striving to achieve their place in the profession of nursing. Faculty who have had the opportunity to function under Dean Perry's leadership have been strongly influenced by her high professional ideas and her philosophy of providing a standard of excellence in nursing education. Dean Perry has established herself as a valuable resource to her colleagues within the larger professional community. Her degree of involvement in the professional and related organizations is indicative of her commitment to the betterment of the nursing community.

    Truly, Dean Perry's contributions to East Carolina University School of Nursing and the nursing profession have had, and will continue to have, far-reaching effects!

    Evelyn has requested that her remains be cremated and taken to Perry Cemetery Plot in Graham, N.C. at a later date.

    In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Perry Scholarship Fund, College of Nursing, East Carolina University @ Greenville, North Carolina.

    The family will receive friends and guests at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory, 900 John Small Ave., Washington, NC from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday September 14, 2015.
