Born: June 12, 1924, Died: April 3, 2016

    Mr. Philip Talbott, Jr., age 91, a long-time resident of Island Lane, in the Pamlico Plantation Community, Washington, NC, passed away peacefully at his home overlooking the Pamlico on Sunday, April 3, 2016.

    Mr. Talbott was born June 12, 1924 to the late Philip and Mary Johnson Talbott. Phil entered the US Navy after graduating from high school. He served 4 1/2 years, piloting carrier-based aircraft. Phil also retired from USNR. It was in 1945 that his plane was stuck by another plane over Boston Harbor. The other plane crashed but Phil guided his plane to a safe landing. After the Navy he flew experimental aircraft and test missions for Goodyear and the FAA. He was a graduate of George Washington University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree.

    On October 31, 1986 he married Judith Bauer Talbott whom was his faithful companion and caregiver until the end. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his first wife Helen Hunter Talbott, one son Philip Talbott III, and his sister Norma Dominy. Phil was head of flight operations for Johnson & Johnson until his retirement. His flying career with J&J was marked with thousands of flights to all parts of the United States and most of Europe, the Middle East, and South America.

    Phil's experiences when not serving J&J were diverse, several years of flying Ambassador Walter Annenberg to England and other parts of the world including Afganistan... aerial spraying of grasshoppers... flying experimental rubber airplanes and testing secret guidance missile systems... 11 years of flying in the US Navy, from which he retired as commander...flying famous individuals, including three former US Presidents and star entertainers. Among others that utilized his services were Ronald Reagan when he was Governor of California, former Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, and several stars of the entertainment world including Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, and Redd Skeleton.

    After Phil's retirement he and Judie enjoyed a new life, a small boat, the peace and quiet of their home in Sergeantsville, NJ and later moving to Washington, NC and sailing the waters of the East Coast. In accordance to his wishes there be no local services at this time. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Fairfax, Virginia. Memorial contributions may be given in his honor to Broad Creek EMS, 7214 Broad Creek Road, Washington, NC 27889.
