    Mrs. Dena Van Gyzen Van Dyk, age 98, a former resident of Beaufort County, N.C. and Washington County, N.C. died Monday, May 2, 2016 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington, N.C.

    The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, N.C., followed by a graveside service at 2:30 PM at Pamlico Memorial Gardens, Washington, N.C., conducted by Rev. Emile Harley and Pastor Bob Fry.

    The following will serve as pallbearers: Frank Bullard, Kurt Bullard, Gary Bullard, Timothy Boyd, Jay Boyd, Mark Boyd and Andrew Stoop.

    Mrs. Van Dyk was born in Doon, Iowa on October 1, 1917. She was the daughter of the late Paul Van Gyzen and Johanna Brongers Van Gyzen. Mrs. Van Dyk was a homemaker. She was a former member of the Terra Ceia Christian Reformed Church, the First Presbyterian Church in Plymouth, N.C. and Washington, N.C. and a current member of the Winter Park Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, N.C. While living in the Plymouth area, Mrs. Van Dyk volunteered at the Food Pantry. In her spare time, she loved cooking, crafting, crocheting and sewing.

    Mrs. Van Dyk was married to Frank Van Dyk, who preceded her in death, July 20, 1988.

    Mrs. Van Dyk is survived by four daughters, Angeline Bullard (Neal) of Fayetteville, N.C., Pauline Maultsby (Neal) of Wilmington, N.C., Frances Gardner (George) of Newport News, VA. and Marilyn Stevens of Owings Mills, MD. Also surviving are her grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

    In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Van Dyk was preceded in death by a brother, Jacob Van Gyzen and a sister, Anna Stoop.
