This is day three of Heat Advisories and tomorrow looks like another heat advisory will follow. Please be aware of the cumulative impacts of working outside even for those individuals who believe they are acclimated to the heat.
URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEWPORT/MOREHEAD CITY NC 304 AM EDT THU JUL 7 2016
...DANGEROUS HEAT WILL CONTINUE THIS AFTERNOON AND WILL LIKELY LAST THROUGH THE REST OF THE WEEK...
.THE COMBINATION OF TEMPERATURES IN THE LOW TO MID 90S WITH HIGH HUMIDITY VALUES WILL LEAD TO HEAT INDEX VALUES OF AROUND 105 THROUGH EARLY THIS EVENING.
...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 6 PM EDT THIS EVENING...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NEWPORT/MOREHEAD CITY HAS ISSUED A HEAT ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 6 PM EDT THIS EVENING.
* HEAT INDEX VALUES...UP TO 105.
* TIMING...THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING.
* IMPACTS...HEAT RELATED ILLNESS CAN OCCUR WITH PROLONGED
EXPOSURE.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT A PERIOD OF HOT TEMPERATURES IS EXPECTED. THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE POSSIBLE. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS...STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED
ROOM...STAY OUT OF THE SUN...AND CHECK UP ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS.
TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS...IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN
POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.
TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK...THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT
