Drugs and Questionable Sex
BY: HOOD RICHARDSON
There is a whole lot of lying in politics. It should not be that way. Lying gives politics a bad name. However, politics does not lie. People lie. A person’s true character comes out very shortly after their election. Some politicians perceive their elective office as a new dimension with no rules. People of low character soon start exploiting what they perceive as their new freedom. Too many people expect politicians to lie, so they put little effort into calling them out. Lying politicians lead people to believe one thing while actually doing another thing.
I made a motion to ask the Legislature to focus on drug dealers by increasing the penalty to a mandatory ten years in prison if convicted of dealing drugs or any illegal mind-altering substance. Not a sentencing schedule based on someone’s opinion about how bad the drug is. Sentences could be reduced by as much as two years depending on how well the dealer cooperated or did not cooperate. Because the State of North Carolina under our Democrat Governors has done a poor job in keeping drugs out of prisons, I proposed that we build a new high security prison exclusively for drug criminals.
Commissioner Waters did not attend this meeting. So, we had six commissioners. The vote was three to three. Tandy Dunn, Stan Deatherage and I voted for the motion. Democrats Ed Booth and Jerry Langley and RINO (Republican In Name Only) Randy Walker voted against the motion. A tie vote is a no action vote. I will have the item on the agenda again next month.
I understand the Democrats, soft on crime vote. However, Langley is a minister and made his living in law enforcement. Ed Booth did the same. Langley arrested drug dealers and Booth enforced laws about driving under the influence and other traffic violations. Both of these men should be aware of the damage drugs have done to Beaufort County. So why do they support drug trafficking?
Randy Walker is a different story. He represents himself to the public as being a Republican. On occasion he says he is a conservative Republican. Republicans are well known for being hard on crime and drugs in particular. So, why is Randy the RINO not willing to do something about drugs. His wife, Carolyn, is a school board member. Does she support drugs the way Randy does and why? The Walkers spend considerable effort trying to keep up with the Jones. How do the people they associate with feel about drugs? We are now in the realm of lying politicians.
I made another motion that caused the same three commissioners’ eyes to open up the size of saucers. The motion went something like this. “Do you support the policy of the Beaufort County Community College in using public money, the campus communication system, and buildings to promote the LGBTQ+ movement”? The Community College advertises an LGBTQ+ club, provides a meeting room and an advisor. The vote was a tie. However, my motion will be on the agenda next month.
Langley and Booth are both Democrats. We expect some of this kinky voting from them. Langley is a minister. Some of the woke churches support the LGBTQ+ movement. Not all do and very few of the black churches do. I am not going to try to explain Randy the RINO on this one. He dug this hole supporting, who?
My issue is the use of public property for a highly questionable purpose. The LGBTQ+ movement has no value anywhere in education. This is an issue that serves the public good if it remains in the closet.
The Board voted four to two to apply for a five million dollar grant to build an emergency services complex with a warehouse somewhere in the general vicinity of Snowd Branch Church (extreme west side of Beaufort County). This application came to the Board with no consultation with the Board. The decisions are being made entirely in the back room by county employees. This is a very bad way for our government to operate.
I pointed out that we have no need for a warehouse because there is no regular pattern to hurricane events in Beaufort County. We may not get another serious hit for 20 years. This county is large and divided by a river. A five-million-dollar facility jammed up in the corner of the county is not the best way to serve all county residents. This facility is not needed. The annual operating, maintenance and repair cost for such a facility would be at least one hundred thousand dollars. More tax and spend money.
We did not get a good answer from Commissioner Langley who serves on the BHM Library Board as to why the library became politically active and supported a $15,000 minimum wage for all persons. Langley asserted that the article naming the library as a supporter never existed. The article has been found. BHM Library is supposed to run a library not a political action committee. With this and the emergency services complex situation, Fake Frankie Waters and his cronies are losing control of government. It is time for commissioners to start doing their job and not our employees.
The Joy McRoy fraud case is dragging on. We are approaching three years. I understand the bond companies have repaid most of the stolen money. It is probable that the argument will be that since everyone has their money back, McRoy should not serve time in prison. That bond money came from government agencies who purchased protection from thieves. The bond companies will raise their fees to cover this kind of thievery, and the taxpayers will get the bill for higher bond rates. Looks to me like the squabble is over how much time she will serve. So, what is taking so long?

On the Beaufort County Commission and within the Beaufort County GOP, there are definitely RINOs in our midst of the rest of we true Conservatives.

Politicians who let the hired help - the county managers, city managers, school superintendents, etc. - run government should be ashamed of themselves. We need hands on elected officials who do not delegate their authority to bureaucrats. These lazy politicians need to be replaced.

Government and its bureaucracy are not perfect, and never has been in this self-governed society, here at the local level, at our state level, and at our federal level, therefore, it is incumbent upon all elected politicians to seek a comfortable level of representation for our constituents.
