    On 7-12-2016, Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Drug Unit arrested David Aksel Bunch, 26 years of age, of 4829 Hwy. 17 south in Chocowinity, Carlie Toppin, 23 years of age, of 4829 Hwy. 17 south in Chocowinity and Malcolm Bunch, 30 years of age, of 4829 Hwy. 17 south in Chocowinity.

    David Bunch and Carlie Toppin were charged with Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia not used for Marijuana.

    Malcolm Bunch was charged with Possession of Marijuana, Manufacturing Marijuana and Possession of a Schedule III Controlled Substance.

    Their arrest stemmed from Investigators assisting Probation Officers with conducting warrantless searches on David Bunch and Malcolm Bunch who are currently on probation. Investigators and Probation Officers found marijuana, snorting straws, syringes, spoons with burnt marks and a marijuana smoking pipe in a bedroom shared by Carlie Toppin and David Bunch.

    Investigators found Malcolm Bunch hiding in the woods behind his residence were 26 marijuana plants were located. Investigators and Probation Officers searched Malcolm Bunch's bedroom and found marijuana and suboxone a schedule III controlled substance.

    David Bunch and Carlie Toppin were confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $5,000.00 secured bond. Malcolm Bunch was confined in the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $25,000.00 secured bond.

On Monday, April 13, 2026, the Beaufort County Grand Jury returned a True Bill of Indictment against 24-year-old Brady O’Neil Daniels of Wallace, NC, charging him with the murder of Billy Joe Bell in 2023.
On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call in a wooded area near Pamlico Plantation in Washington NC.
In the past month, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Patrol and K9 Division have arrested 10 people in the county on felony drug charges.
On December 12, 2025, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested 27-year-old Nikkopenia Terra Echevarria of Washington, NC on multiple felony drug charges.
Beaufort County District Attorney Thomas D. Anglim disclosed that Ryan Austin Stalls was convicted of two counts attempted murder and one count of attempted first degree ex offense and first-degree kidnapping following a guilty plea in Beaufort County on December 9, 2025.
On December 22, 2025, Deputies from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the Aurora/Richlands area for a report of a foul odor coming from inside a rental property where a tenant had previously moved out.
On December 5, 2025, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested 39-year-old, Arnold Gerard Whitney of Belhaven, NC on multiple drug and weapon charges.
On Tuesday December 9th, 2025, 33-year-old Ryan Austin Stalls pled guilty in Beaufort County Superior Court to the following charges:

On January 27, 2025 Washington Police Department officers and Washington Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the area of Bonner Street and E. Martin Luther King Jr. Street in reference to a report of a motor vehicle crash.
During the past month, members from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit, Patrol Division and K9 Unit have charged seven people in the county on felony drug charges.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office needs your help locating a wanted person. On October 27, 2025, 40-year-old Givon Montrell Hodges of Washington, NC left Superior Court in Beaufort County and failed to return.
On April 25, 2024, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jaleza Aneice Alexander on multiple drug charges.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received reports of multiple vehicle break-ins between December 6 th and December 9 th in the areas of Turkey Trot Rd., South Asbury Church Rd. and Magnolia School Rd. in Washington.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office has received several calls from concerned parents regarding a past incident that occurred at Bath Elementary School. I would like to assure the public that there is no current threat of school violence.

On Sunday, September 21, 2025 at approximately 1900 hours, Washington Police Department units were dispatched to the 600 block of West 9th Street in reference to a possible shooting in progress.
On December 16 th the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Response Team along with officers from the Washington Police Department joined forces to arrest a subject wanted in Beaufort and Pitt County for ten outstanding warrants that included multiple felony charges.
