Press Release:

Raleigh, NC     Last night on Fox News' Special Report with Bret Baier, Senator Burr joined the program to provided an update on the terrorist attacks in New York, New Jersey and Minnesota.

In the interview, Senator Burr blasted the Obama administration's decision to close Guantanamo Bay and release terrorists back into the Middle East. Deborah Ross still has no position of record on the Obama administration's unconscionable decision to close GITMO despite repeated calls from the Burr campaign to give North Carolina voters a clear answer.

BRET BAIER: Steve Hayes and Tom Jocelyn at The Weekly Standard did a really long piece about Gitmo and who is actually leaving Guantanamo Bay. Suggesting there's some pretty bad terrorists that actually have been transferred to the UAE, for example, and other places. Are you concerned about that closing? That it seems like the administration wants and the president wants that to happen?

SEN. RICHARD BURR: Absolutely. We had no Boy Scouts at Gitmo-don't misunderstand. It was the level of threat that they presented. What we're down to is hard core people, individuals that really -- I question whether they can be rehabilitated and if given the avenue to get to a country where they can marry back up with a mission, they will do that. We have seen it happen and we will continue to see it happen with the hardest core that we let go.

Senator Burr also highlighted the serious terror threats our country faces on a daily basis, the need to eliminate terror groups' ability to direct and facilitate attacks, and how out of touch the Obama administration is when it comes to defeating terrorism.

BRET BAIER: The White House Press Secretary today saying that actually we are just in a war of narratives against ISIS. Your reaction to that?

SEN. RICHARD BURR: That it shows you how out of touch this administration is with the terrorism that we see in New York, in New Jersey, in Minneapolis. more importantly, the threat list that I look at every morning as the Chairman of the Intelligence Committee, where I look at more threats globally around the world than anybody could ever imagine, to say this is a surprise, no, it's not. I've been on your show and said it's a matter of time. If it's not here, it's Europe, if it's not Europe it's Asia. It's going to happen until we take this seriously and we eliminate the ability for either direction or facilitation by ISIL or al-Qaeda or any of the offshoots that are out there. As long as there is intent and capability, then we're in the red area of the bullseye.
